Hi, in a few months I'm going on a study-trip to Brazil (I study music), and I am wondering if it's possible to buy film, mostly black/white, but also some color, at a reasonable prize over there? I'm from Europe, and usually pay around 3,4 (or something like 8 R$).
I will be staying mostly in Rio de Janeiro and Salvador.
Should I bring some film from europe, or would it be a complete waste of effort?
You can buy online from Freestyle at USA , chemical or film , whatever price you want to pay. There is even 1 dollar film from there. But You can expect to find minilabs at Rio , there are zillions of tourists and everyone would want a print from their films. Tourist destinations are heaven for photographers.
I've seen a few posts on APUG about Brazilian film prices, mostly that they are horrifically high. There are also import duties on it, so even if you buy from the US and have it posted to you, it will still end up expensive. Best option is probably to bring it with you, cheaper again if you make a NYC stopover and visit B&H to pick some up on the way.
And of course, tourists generally shoot digital so you can ignore Mustafa.
