Any good, bad or indifferent experiences? I am looking for some Tri-X 120. A film that cannot be had for love nor money in my city.

Mike

There is a shop in Dallas [I think. I'm fairly sure Texas] that's not bad. fair shipping to Canada. I'll try and find thier Ebay name.

Other then that? Doesn't J&C now stock Kodak film? Plus of course Freestyle. Once you add in shipping the Ebay "deals" aren't deals usually.

What city is that?

I've had good luck buying short dated 120 tri-x 400 film on ebay. Sometimes you have to negotiate the shipping charges.

The times I've checked J&C didn't have any stock of 120 tri-x.

Long date film I buy locally 3.59 a roll, no shipping but does have sales tax.

Mike

Unless your city is cut off from the outside world, can't you order it online? Freestyle has it in stock in 5 roll pro packs, and will have it in stock in single rolls soon I guess. If you're going to use the mail anyway, why not get fresh, reliable stock from an APUG sponsor?

Edit: oops, sorry, that link doesn't quite get you there. Just type 'tri-x' in the search window.

Makes sense John. In trying to save a few dollars I might wind up with a lot of junk.

No Tri-X at Freestyle but the Dallas link looks good and the shipping charge is a fair one.

I always try to buy from sellers that have a feedback rating as close to 100% as possible. I've have good luck with film on ebay, but I'm careful to check the feedback rating and to see how the film has been stored, fridge, freezer, etc.

I buy film on ebay all the time, there is only one seller I have ever had a problem with, never had any problems with the film I have purchased.

Dave

I don't buy from the bigger film sellers and I've had no problems. I just bought 11 rolls of medium format lately so that I can start shooting with my Ansco and the new Agfa that I bought recently.

I haver thousands or rolls and sheets from many of the large retailers back east and have always been happy, never got any film that had problems, I tend to buy from the pro retailers, as I figure I have a better chance to get film that has been stored properly, I don't often buy from individuals, because they always say it has been stored correctly, but just don't trust them to store it the way I would.

On eBay in the past I've had good experience with Zeff Photo up in Boston area (or down from Fredricton - depends on your point of view :D ). After buying via the Bay they started e-mailing sales notices so have also purchased direct.

Not sure about shipping charges to NB but they are m/l in your nabe...

I can also vouch for Zeff. They do very good business. In fact, I bought the Nikon FE that I had that WORKED from them.

Henrys in Canada. 400 Tri-X 120 4.19 Canadian.

I've bought a lot on film on ebay, I only had one problem with some Kodak TMAX 400. No matter how I processed it the emulsion seam to swell up and was easy to nick and scratch, I think that was that batch though. Other wise I've had no problems.

Hi Mike,

Henry's has flat rate shipping by Expresspost - works well especially if you order a fair bit. Don's photo in Winnipeg (and elsewhere - west)

http://www.donsphoto.com/category.a...ucts.productName+ASC&mcat=k2&scat=K5&tcat=K17

has 5 roll packs of Tri-x 320 and Plus-x for for $18.60 CDN which was the best price I could find in mid-June/06. 5 packs of 5 cost $10.00 to ship.

They also have 35mm Kodachrome 64 in stock.

One of their employees is an APUG member, but I can't remember who.

You can contact:

Russ Strong
Don's Photo Pro Desk
& eStore Manager
(204) 942-8335
1-800-561-6403

They did not have it in stock, but the delay was only a week or so.

I prefer to support APUG sponsors - JandC and Freestyle, but in this case it was cheaper and available.

By the way, thank you for the image scans and the post card.

Cheers,
Clarence

PS I have bought a lot of film on ebay, and never had any problems - even with outdated stock.

Oh gosh... what a disappointment. I'm planning a trip there (we.., really a bit West of there -- Scotch Corners) to visit some relatives I haven't seen for two or three generations. I was planning on carrying equipment and getting film upon arrival. I guess I'd better re-think that plan. I'm sincerely glad you mentioned it!

Brian meet Mike.

Mike meet Brian.

Brian - why not ask Mike to increase his order (from wherever) to include what you need?

Oh, and be sure to buy him a Moosehead (or better yet, a local micro brew) for his trouble! :D

Have you tried Vistek in Toronto? They should have stock of this and it wont have to cross the border to get to you. www.vistek.ca

I forgot about Vistek. I believe their price was higher in June. I also see that their shipping is a bit cheaper than Don's.

Mike, one thing you have to take into account on foreign orders, besides shipping, is the $5.00 that Canada Post charges to collect the GST, or in your case I believe it is the Harmonized GST/PST. For Global Express Mail (EMS) it is $8.00. For small value orders it can be a large part of the cost. They sometimes miss packages, which means you get them tax free - it is a bit of a lottery. Also, your order may arrive in three days or three weeks, depending on Canada Customs - I'm not sure what they do with those packages that takes so long - especially when they arrive with the label that says NOT OPENED.

Cheers,
Clarence
