I'm heading to Nagoya, Japan for the first time fairly soon. Would any of you have any recommendations for film/film camera shops there that you have visited, or any specific second-hand shops that are pretty cool?

Member recommendations have been helpful in the past. Thanks so much!

Your best bet is either BIC Camera (right behind the Nagoya station - Shinkansen side I believe) or Yodobashi Camera (a little further out). However, it's been a while since I've been so I'm not sure what the selection will be like at BIC - here in Kyoto BIC has cleared out their film section, but Yodobashi remains committed to theirs.

Yeah, I’ve heard of Yodobashi, and have visited one before. I’ll make sure to check this one out. Thanks!
I’ll also be looking deeper pretty soon to see if any small film camera shops are still around.

Paul - there are still shops selling used camera gear all over the place, but I never really pay enough attention to be able to describe where they are later (!). One thing I've learned though, is that Google (maps) is not always your friend - it may show camera shops on the map, with the website, but when you get there you see that it has been closed down for some time (although I think this is more of an issue in smaller places). I'm sure you'll come across plenty if you walk through most of the downtown area in Nagoya. If you any good ones, it would be good to post back here so that we have some info to refer to in the future.

Indeed, Google-Maps tends to have shops that haven't existed for quite some time, which is one of the reasons why I ask members if they know of any firsthand.

I'm also headed to Fukuoka, Japan for an overnight trip in early January, and I'll have about a day-and-a-half to roam around. Found some neat neighborhoods, such as Ropponmatsu, and a few others that look promising for some cool side-street cafes and neat off-the-beaten-path street shooting. I'll keep a lookout for any camera shops when traveling to Fukuoka, too.

Would anyone happen to know of any good Film Camera shops in Fukuoka, Japan?

Yodobashi. It's right beside the station on the Shinkansen side. I lived in Kumamoto for 4 years, this Yodobashi was my go-to film and darkroom store for the entire time that I lived in Kyushu (and trust me, I checked in every city I ever visited across the island, and in Japan generally). Of course it was possible to find some film in some shops, but they never had the selection Yodobashi had. I haven't been there in a few years though (like Nagoya) so don't know what the current situation is. But that's probably your best bet. You can also order from Yodobashi online and have your order sent to your hotel (or wherever you are staying - Ideally it's a place where someone can sign for the package). I usually get the order within 24 hours, and never more than 48 hours later. I'm not great at Japanese, just have Google automatically translate the page and it works well enough for me.
