Yes, thanks for the update. Having been, among my several careers, a plant/manufacturing engineer, I can understand the problems and delays being encountered. Sometimes, no matter how careful you plan and execute, everything seems late and over budget. Tell the guys to hang in there - I've got my money in my hand to try some of your film.
 
Loose Asbestos is a real killer in more ways than one. Once it is found NO ONE can get in to do anything until it is coralled by special trained folks in disposable Tyvek bunny suits. Golad to hear that they have gotten back in the building.
 
Not to be too pessimistic but the winter was too cold now the summer is too hot, equipment and structural problem with the building. I wonder if the money they have from kickstarter will be enough.

You are right to wonder, but fortunately for us, none of the problems that we've faced this year have cost us a dime. Really, the only cost to us so far is a bit of frustration from the delays.

The Primo Lotto is not in danger.

how many deadlines Ferrania missed ? First too warm than too cold than They doesn't have this one or this other one. now I am very skeptical. the company is only fine to sell excellent vintage "lomo" gadgets
 
Everyone here said it would be a long and rocky road.

Just update us more frequently I would say.
It doesn't take a lot to post something on Twitter once or twice a week.
That way people know the status and don't build up hope and then get disappointed when another deadline is missed.

This is not a film manufacturing project. It is a building construction project. And a very difficult one. Doing it on time would have been a miracle not done ever anywhere else on the planet.

By the way, did you contribute in the kickstarter?

Thanks for the update. Tell the team in Italy to hang in there, it will get done. I work in IT, and can't begin to tell you how many deadlines have been blown where I work, yet the client still loves us and continues to find new things for us to do.
 
It takes an optimist to build or start something and a pessimist to quit or tear it down.
 
Thanks to all of you who have continually been understanding and encouraging of our massive endeavor.

I wanted to quickly address of a couple of the points made in this thread:

Regarding social media, we post something nearly every day on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram - even if the activity is not always directly related to factory operations or production...

Having nothing to announce over the last month was quite difficult for us because we do feel very compelled to share all we can. But we were in the dark as much as anyone because the contractors are not working for us - they're working for, and answered only to, the Italian government agency in charge of the grounds and our building modifications.

Also, if we share something and then it changes, it leaves an opening for certain folks with "humble opinions" to claim that we have "broken his promises" [sic].

Finally, for a little context, we've had just this one brief period of silence since "coming out" last June. And although we might feel compelled to communicate, we are not obligated to do so when we don't have reliable info ourselves...

To twist an old adage: "It was better to do nothing now and apologize later."

We don't expect it to happen again. But then again, we didn't expect it the first time either...
 
As a KS contributor with a little money in play, as far as I'm concerned I don't see any problems at all at this point.

In other words, a discovery of asbestos that required mitigation in a project of this size and scope is exactly the sort of thing that should be expected. One simply deals with that situation as just another in a very long line of other challenges one is going to face. Such challenges are the buy-in one makes when deciding to proceed.

Anyone who thinks that such an undertaking is going to proceed soup-to-nuts in a perfectly straight line without a single challenge has simply never been involved in such an undertaking themselves. The understanding ones, the ones who quietly nod their heads with a wry smile, are the ones who have, and know better.

When I contributed my pledge to KS I was fully aware that I wasn't directly buying rolls of new film. I knew that what I was buying was a good faith promise by someone to do the best they could with my contribution to restart a film manufacturing business. Nothing more.

If it turns out that I end up with rolls of film, I'll be thrilled. But if it ends up that all of the myriad challenges of such a huge project can't in the end be completely overcome, then I will still have received that good faith effort that I was promised. The deal will still have been fulfilled.

The only guarantee in playing the lottery is that you can't win the game if you don't play the game. My KS pledge was my buy-in to play this game...

I pledged with the hope of ending up with a new source of color film, not for the 4 rolls of film that may end up on my doorstop one day.
