What are some good "cheaper" 120 films? i remember reading about some re-branded stuff that isn't bad. Any suggestions would be much appreciated
 
Shanghai GP3 is my favourite.


I got image in my gallery thats GP3.

Have you checked out the Arista Films? I believe Arista.edu is rebranded Foma film and Arista Premium is rebranded Kodak film (someone correct me if I'm wrong)


A whole corner of my fridge is filled with Atista.Edu in 35mm, and I'm happy with it. the size of 120 should make it even better
 
Quality not quantity

I stopped buying off-label heavily discounted films about 20 years ago. I found that the quality was so unreliable that it just wasn't worth taking chances. As long as premium quality name brand film such as Kodak, Fuji, and Ilford is available I would recommend that you use that. How much is your time worth?
 
The problem I have with some of the cheap films has to do with curling. I find it difficult to make contact prints, trying to arrange the film on 8/10 paper with a contact printer.

Fuji Acros 100 is a wonderful film and available at a pretty good price. And it doesn't curl.
 
When it comes to prices and materials that are available, it's always worth saying where you are based.

Arista.edu ultra (foma) is excellent film. 100 speed is really smooth in rodinal, and the price allows me to shoot twice as much for the same cost.
 
Kodak's Tri-X in 120 when bought at a big store like Freestyle or B&H is only arond $3.75.....You get what you pay for
 
Now that Neopan is gone in 120, I'm back to buying Tri-X. I'm one of those who has found the rebrands (besides the Freestyle Premium and LegacyPro films) to not be worth it. For me it has to be practically free before I will shoot it, if it's merely slightly cheaper than name brand film it's not worth it. Arista Premium and LegacyPro films are steal, though.
 
Fuji's 120 black and white is incredibly low priced compared to Kodak and Ilford. I wish I liked the look of their b/w films better for general-purpose photography. As it is, I only use Fuji b/w for long exposures.

I like Efke (also sold as Adox CHS) 25, 50, and 100, and they are cheap. The 100 makes a darned good general purpose cheap film if you like its look (grainy, inherently flat, a tad "orthoesque").

However, I think Fuji is the way to go for most people who want an inexpensive but top-notch-quality b/w 120 film.
 

All Neopan, or just Neopan 400?
 
$2.95 for Neopan 100 and 400. $3.75 for Tri-X....I'll still take the Tri-X......
