Film changing tent for developing

Hello can anyone help me out I am looking for a film changing tent/bag but one I could also use to develop 5x4 film in with trays.

That might be possible if you were especially adept, but would other wise be a nuisance.

It's sort of a no choice issue, I have moved and have no darkroom

Have you considered using a Paterson tank and developing "taco" style?

I just like trays it all works and never any probs so just wanna stick with that

I could work with tray when I am on the west coast, but I do not have facilities to do that unless I go to photoworks [http://www.glenechophotoworks.org/] and use their darkrooms. I tried a number of daylight load tanks and progressed up the cost range finally ending up with a JOBO processor. Hence now I can develop color film.

I was never successful in finding or building a workable development tent. I hope that you find something that works for you.

I have and use a Jumbo Harrison film changing tent. It would accommodate a series of tray quite easily but I shudder to think of the mess from splashes and spills.

I have a series of 1 gallon (US) deep tanks with a rack which I can use only at night if I turn the house into a darkroom. It does work. But I favour using Paterson tanks for 120 and Jobo 2509N reels in 2500 tanks for 4x5.

I know a guy who uses a "grow tent" tent in his darkened basement. here's one from ebay:

there are plenty on ebay, search all cathories for "grow tent."

I also know a guy who uses the Nova Darkroom tent that Martin Aislabie mentioned above and really likes it.

I think the Harrison tent looks like a good option. The Darkroom Tents are a bit over kill for me.

Have fun cleaning up the mess. Never have I done tray processing without a few spills. These changing tent are not made with them getting wet in mind. Better you should get a daylight tank for your 4x5 sheets and learn to use it. I use the CombiPlan and it works great for me.

I'd recommend using a large tray in the bottom of the tent. That way, if there are spills, there would be a chance that they would end up in the tray, rather than the tent fabric itself.

£70 is a bargain

The regular size might be a little snug but I am sure you will manage

Have plenty of towels on stand-by - you might just need them

You might also want to investigate putting a towel/something absorbent in the bottom of the tent to take care of the odd splash

I probably wouldn't use to it to load film if you are developing inside it

Those little white specs of splashed developer could easily end up on the film when loading the darkslides

I spend quite a lot of time scrupulously cleaning the inside of my Harrison before handling film - something I have learned I needed to do

Got my tent this morning. Its amazing I can fit 3 10x8 trays easily and its really well made, also it looks like it has never been used for £70 a bargain.

Loaded some film in my tent, shot 3 films not in my tent, tray developed in my tent, easy and perfect!

I do use my tent for load/unload films, but never thought to use it for developing in it, i may think to do that one day.

You should do it, it means you can watch TV while developing lots of film or as I do look into the garden at the birds also you don't get the whiff of fixer up your nose, and you can develop film anywhere. I can't say enough how it has changed my life
