Ferrania P33 and developers

Hi folks... I hope all is well with everyone here.

I am about to try a roll of Ferrania P33 and looking at developers the company itself suggests few. Among them is Rodinal which I have in the Adonal version. Also suggested is D-76 which I do not have but I do have D-96 which I used successfully on a roll of Ferrania P30.

Just wondering if anyone might like to give an opinion on the possibilty of D-96 with Ferrania P33. I don't know what adjustment I would need to make in time and agitations, so....

Any takers?

I think that, as with any new developer/film combination, you will need to test it yourself to figure out the right times. You might take a look at how the film's times are in other developers vs a film you are familiar with and use that as a starting point time for testing.

I had stellar results in Barry Thornton two-bath 4+4 at EI 160. It is a safe bet if your water is on the warmish side during the summer and/or you're unsure of other recipes.

Please excuse my delay in replying... a couple of weeks of unexpected interuptions.

I went ahead and tried things out and I am reasonable happy with the results. I "peeped", something I never do, and the grain structure was consistent and well formed without hazing, not bad for a D-X 135. As well, I mistook my readings and shot at 400 rather than the 250 I wanted to, but still with good results. I also shot a roll of Tri-X 400 and that came out with minimal grain but good volumes.

That is very interesting information Scott, thanks. Yep, the darkroom can heat up quicky in a Spanish summer... I don't panic as much now as I did following sound advice like this from you and other members... this truly is a great place to learn and gain confidence.
