Ferrania Italy Kickstarter campaign

Dave Bias nterview reveals what Ferrania is u to.

There is an interview of Dave Bias (formerly with Impossible project) on the film photography podcast all about the Ferrania plans. http://filmphotographyproject.com/podcast/2014/09/film-photography-podcast-110-–-october-1-2014. My take is that they are building a film company scaled to the current market. They plan to be a company that can react to the changes in demand and continue to provide film for those that want it.

I am in and am supporting the KickStarter.

I just supported them. The look of the film brought me back to the early ages of my photography career . I was a teenager and remember the 3M branded slide rolls.
This story makes me feel proud of being an Italian citizen. We do have many problems but things like this can only happen here. We should not forget that Michelangelo never ever painted on a wall before
the "giudizio universale"...... I wish Ferrania and its "pioneers" the best of luck. Buona fortuna ragazzi !

When they are successful, I will be very happy that I got in on the KS campaign. Not that it doesn't make me happy now, or course. I've never even had the chance to shoot Ferrania film

Side note - whoever did their package design nailed it. I've always been fascinated with packaged design but haven't really had the chance to do much with it.
 
I'm in, Like most here, I'm just an average working person, who just so happens to not be dripping with cash, but this is why I like KS, it allows us small givers to do something big.

This is a wonderful effort by Ferrania!

And that "Founders wall" thing is fantastic! I'll be in for the 2+2

Kickstarter keeps making locking me out.
I also have questions, will post the answers once I get my account set right.


(Btw, why dont similar cos also try for an IPO - just a thought)


/CineStill could learn a bit from this one. The clear goals and intent.

I would like to know how you figure you'll get 100 years of film out of this particular project.
 
It's a rhetorical 100 years. If it turns out to only be 99 I won't be asking for a pro-rated refund...

Scotchchrome was weird stuff, but I liked the unique look. Nice to know they intend to make it in 120 size too.

So what did it look like? I can't seem to find any scans on-line that are not cross processed or severely out of date. If you had to compare it to a modern E6 film what would it resemble?
 
Nice and romantic but I think misplaced. I think there will not be adequate demand for color chrome film to sustain anything even if this campaign is successful. I'll be using my funds to continue to support Ilford instead.

You might want to read the articles or listen to the interviews. They are saying that they are making their decisions based on creating and positioning a company to be in the film business a hundred years from now, and this project is critical to that goal. The equipment they want to rescue will enable them to be independent of other companies' technological decisions For instance, at some time in the not too distant future, whoever supplies the tri-acetate base may no longer be able to do it to their specifications. That would put them out of business. To prevent this, they must have "Trixie", the machine that takes raw materials, such as cotton in at one end and produces film base out of the other. There's a pretty good chance cotton might still be grown a hundred years from now.

They are not saying that this project guarantees they will be manufacturing film a hundred years from now, but without it, they most certainly will not. Is that too hard to understand?
