Christian Nze has been selected as the February Featured Porfolio on the APUG home page. Christian graciously took the time to answer some questions about his work. Thanks Christian!

How did you get started in photography?
I get in photography when I was 16 years old (I am 37). I found my brother's camera and give it a try with some black and white film. I was lucky enough to have a photo club in my school. That's how I started developing and print. Two years after I was printing my first bichromate gum and cyanotype.

Why do you Choose to work with the processes you do?
Once again my brother was here with a great book he found, a L.P clerc , an old basic French phtographic book full of formula and processes. I try them all. And in 1996 when I find Bostick and Sullivan on the web and discover that they sold Palladium at 1/100 the French price, I was a platinum printer.

What does your work mean to you personally?
Mean so much for me. Art mean a lot for me. That's a way to express and show my vision and understanding of this world to others. Photography is a great medium which mixes an easy way to capture and so many ways to transfer it on paper. My work is a link to contemplation. I try to capture images around me with a simple feeling link to them.

How do you see your work evolving creatively?
For the moment I just can say that the more I photograph, the more I get into abstraction. But I don't know what I will do in the next decade.

Who or what are the major influences on your work?
For sure many photographers , J. Sudek, I. Penn, S. Mann, H. Sugimoto to name few. But more than all it is music, for each my project I listen to few song to keep a precise state of emotivity.

Congrats, Christian. I've always enjoyed your posts in the gallery, as well as the prints you've sent in the print exchanges (I know, I still owe you one).

Christian, very well deserved recognition of your work. I am an admirer of your work, your unique vision, and the tangible mood present in your photographs.
Well done Jason for picking work like this for the monthly portfolio. I know that Christian is a very nice guy too, so I'm glad it happened to him!

Aller Christian!

Good choice. The photography is excellent and shows creativity. Nice to see someone that is influenced by artists other than AA and EW et al.

Christian, Congratulations. Great work. I know I've been telling you this for years, but this proves it. I've got about 5 of your prints hanging and they always get commented on. I wish I had the room to display the rest of them. Maybe I'll rotate them by season...
