I'm intrigued by the question.
I have a preference for using a short telephoto for portraits or other photos of individual people.
And I guess if I did a lot of bird or wildlife or arena sports photography, I might associate longer lenses with that.
But other than that I just don't associate any particular focal length with any particular type of photography.
To make this Postcard Exchange entry I used the fixed 50mm f/2 Xenon lens on my Retina IIIc.

I think it fits well the classification of "landscape", but I used that lens because that was the one I had, and it nicely filled the frame.

Makes me want to reconsider the 50mm for landscapes...!

I’m voting for the 1960s-vintage Nikkor UD, a monster 20mm lens that focuses down to a foot. It’s ergonomic (if big), well-constructed, and renders an image mostly free of distortion and falloff.

Being an older lens, it has compatibility issues. I shoot it with a converter on a Sony A7 body and it works great for me.

When size is an issue, I use a 25mm Snapshot Skopar from Cosima Voigtlander. Tiny lens, great performance, not quite so wide as the Nikkor UD and with some falloff at the margins but not so much as you would see with an Angulon.

Yes, I’ve heard of the 20mm UD.
Good choice…’
