farmers reducer for old film negs

Hello everyone:I just finished processing some old film pack and roll film negatives.Both were tri-x and even with using HC-110 there is still base fog.I can probably print through it but I am wondering if I use Farmer's Reducer formula 4a whether this will reduce the base fog to a workable level.Any thoughts?.
