No doubt the F4's Matrix computer can handle horizontal shots well, but is it programmed well enough to handle lots of verticals too?

Yes

DP20 finder have 2 mercury switches for sensing. old school . now any stupidsmartphone have silicon chips as magnetic compass, gyroscope, gravity sensor, .....

How do you know?

The light reading is the same in landscape and portrait for the same subject. The electronics are not influenced by gravity.

I just thought there would be more horizontal algorithyms or whatever stored in the computer rather than vertical ones.

I don't use Matrix. Center-weight is king. Although, a decade after standardizing on ASA100 film, I do fine without a meter.

At least with negative films.
