f100 shutter lag

Does anybody have a answer to the question of, how long is the shutter lag of a nikon f100.

Right now I am trying to replace my d300 so I can have a full film fleet. I already have a 500cm for my Mf. I am just trying to decided between the f100 or f5. My d300 has a shutter lag of .045 and the f5 has a lag of .037, I hear the f100 is slower but I want to know by how much.

D100 is listed as .051 there. D300 time agrees with your figure.

Telling by that the f100 just just as good as the rest. I remember hearing interviews about how it is slow and not comparable to the f5. Click here to read that interview

It is faster then the canon pro digi’s that I used. Well that looks good for the f100 over the f5.

Thanks for the table. Interesting that the F100 matches the F6 and that both have a greater lag than the F5 which is even faster( twice as fast) with the mirror pre-release, However if I have understood what a mirror pre-release does it would seem to defeat the objective of having a quicker lag as in most sports action where the lag becomes very important the mirror pre-release preventing a sighting of the action kind of defeats the object of having a lag that's twice as fast.

Might have a use in insect/bird photography where the camera is prefocused on a specific point and the trigger is pressed when the insect/bird alights on the focused spot.

The 1D isn't bad, especially the ones that will do fast release for apertures near wide open, 40ms but most of the Nikons are faster. The Canon EOS 1N RS with pellicle mirror and pre-closed aperture and pre-lifted submirror is the fastest. The pellicle mirror means you can see the action DURING the shot.

Lightning and motion triggers don't need a human operator so a lifted mirror is fine.

My take on this---I have shot with a F5 and F100 at the same time (sold the F5). For a practial purposes they are the same, I just didn't notice a difference in shutter lag. At some point in life fast enough is fast enough. I also own and shoot with the D300 it is the same as the F100 for shutter lag. Now my N80 has a lonnnnnng shutter lag right down there with my RB-67ProS!!!

I would not be able to tell the difference between .037 and .051, so there is no problem. And it is going to be used for wedding, general duties and on mission trips. The mission trips is the place where I would want the f5 for the weather proofing.

Canon EOS 1 for weather too though honestly years before there were cameras advertised as weather proof I never really worried about it...

F100 is fast enough to not make a difference. The F5 does focus a bit faster with AF lenses, and has a better matrix metering system, but it also weighs a million pounds.

It's simply never been an issue--whatever lag it has is way faster than my brain and fingers can talk, anyway. The F100 is an absolutely wonderful camera, BTW. It and my RF645 would be the last two cameras anybody could pry from my cold dead fingers.
