I'm interested in getting the Jobo 3010 expert drum. The spec's say that the max devloper is 330 ml. If I use Pyrocat HD at 1:1:100 will there be enough developer to process 10 4x5 sheets. A search shows that Sandy recomends 50-60 ml per sheet. This works out to 500 to 600ml, more than the stated capacity of the drum. Does any one have any experience using this combination? What did you do?

Thanks

Michael,

330ml is the minimum needed for even spread of the developer over the sheets of film. The 3010 drum can handle up to 1000ml, so you would have no problem putting in 600ml of Pyrocat HD to handle 10 sheets.

Do you have experience with this volume in the drum? I ask this because Jobo's own site states a min of 210ml and a max of 330ml.

from the Jobo site

Drum #3010

10 pieces of 4 x 5" film or paper
Solution required
Minimum 210 ml
Maximum 1000 ml

(though I believe they now suggest 300ml is the minumum...)

And yes, I've used this and the 8x10 drum with a litre in - the motor can struggle a bit, but works fine.

Depending on the developer I regulary use 500ml - 700ml

I use 1000ml of Rollo Pyro from Bostick & Sullivan in either 3010 and 3005 Expert drums on a CPP-2. It took an upgraded lift to drive it, but it has worked well for three years now.

I used to run the 3010 either with the Jobo hand rollers in a tempering bath for long developing times where temperature was critical or when I was lazy and running a fairly short developing time on a Bessler Motor Base. I often maxed it out with 1000ml of developer depending on the situation of course.

I use the exact same amount of developer as John in a 3010. I even use the same Rollo Pyro. I guess that makes two of us

I use 600ml of pyrocat HD or Rollo pyro in each of my Expert drums at the slowest possible rotation speed, and have no trouble with them.

Thank you all for your quick replies. I'll be ordering the drum on Monday. I've checked back to a couple of sites that list them for sale as well as Jobo's own site and it still reads 210 - 330ml. There is nothing about a max of 1 litre.

http://www.jobo.com/joboint/products/3000tank.html

I just did a seach for Jobo and came up with there USA site. It lists the min/max as 210-1000ml.

D-oh!!!

As well as the details I quoted above, the Jobo site also lists minimum volumes for different numbers of sheets in the drums for various processes.

For 10 shts 4x5 it lists a minumum of 500ml - the two figures you quote of a min of 210ml and a max of 330ml are mistaken I think

check:

http://www.jobo.com/jobo_service/us_analog/instructions/instructions_misc_expert_drums.htm

Thanks Tim. That is very helpful. The min and max that I got was for E6 from the tables on this page.
