I have an older Jobo CPP-2. According to the serial number it is a second generation unit with a double bearing rotation motor. I've heard that these units are not strong enough to run the larger Expert drums without an astonishingly expensive upgrade (which, in any case is probably not even available any more).Has anyone any experience running the larger Expert drums on these older units? I'd like to know if its worth a try.

I've been running 3006 and 3010 drums in a 2'nd generation CPP2 for a couple of years now without any problems. Just see to that you run it rather slow and that you are careful when lifting and lowering the drum. Use the right hand to support the lifting action.
Nowadays these units are rather cheap, so you may find an extra processor or find an extra processing unit, without the big water tub.
