Experiences with RPX400?

I'm simply curious on your experiences with RPX400.

I've tried it at ISO200 (after determing my effective film speed) in HC110 dil. B, but it was lacking midtone contrast (maybe I incorrectly performed my effective film speed test) while the negatives exposed after ISO320 does look a lot better in midtone contrast.

I usually scan my negatives, but sometimes I find the time for some proper darkroom printing. Haven't printed any RPX400 yet but any day now...

Your impressions? Has anyone tried it in R09? Or the special purpose RPX-D developer?

Is this a Rollei version of Agfa APX400? If so, I believe it would be from the Agfa master rolls, and therefore should be APX400. If so, it should be fine in R09, as R09 is virtually the same as Rodinal, and APX400 and Rodinal play well together. From memory Rodinal 1+25 for about 8 minutes should work.

Hello, I have just finished ten rolls of this RPX400 in 120 version and souped in rodinal stand 1:100. Attached is a direct scan from a session. Can't give much exposure settings because i just winged it sunny 16 for the entire shoot and my rolls turned out fine for printing. Will give it a go under enlarger this weekend.

I've already read most threads on RPX400, and I've read a lot of dev.charts. from the manufacturer, I'm mostly interested in other peoples experiences with the film, in different developers.

I too would like to know more about this film.
All I can say that I find it looks positively ugly in Rodinal; Flat, dull, poor tonal separation.

It's much nicer in Studional (Rodinal Spezial), but not amazing.

So far, the best results I have gotten with this film are using Diafine rated at ASA 800 to 1600.


I tried to develop a roll through Rodinal 1:25, but base fog was high. Once scanned and curves were tweaked, results were OK. In my opinion, a last resort combination.
Bellow is RPX 400 developed in Rodinal 1:25 for 5:33min at 19,5ºC.
