Some companies make over-the-shoulder straps that attach to the camera’s the tripod socket. Good idea? Bad idea? I’d love to hear about your experiences using one with your LTM or other camera(s).

The great think about using strap lugs is they don't unscrew.
I had a wrist strap for some camera that screwed into the tripod socket ... I think it was a Chaika. Anyway, you use the camera a little bit and suddenly that thing is halfway screwed out...

I don’t know if I would trust such straps for casual hands free carry. The bolt could work loose. I do use the tripod socket for a wrist strap with some of my rangefinder cameras, such as Leica, Canon, and Contax, pocketing them in soft leather zippered pouches once made by Leitz. Wrist strap is used to add support when releasing shutter…not for carrying camera. With some cameras, such as Rollei 35, wrist strap is essential.
See above about bolt gradually working loose.

I don't trust sling straps that rely solely on the tripod socket. I think the best option are Peak Design who supply their straps with a little adapter that you screw into the tripod socket and the other end of the strap goes to a proper trap lug. Not much can undo from that setup.
