Getting closer to my show in Japan. The town of Omuta is celebrating its 100th year as well as it's coal mining past (last mine closed in 1999). I photographed some of the old mines (some are as old as the city) which have some great old buildings on site, and endless photographic possibilities. I will be showing carbon transfer and kallitype prints.
Looking forward to it and to visit my old stomping grounds!

I understand they began mining coal there in the 1400s. Wow. Congratulations on your show.

Andrew:

I wish I could see the show.

Best of luck.

And we do need to get out shooting again!

Wow, a show that I could actually see. Of course, it's just my luck that I moved from Kumamoto (very close to Omuta) and now you have to have a show there. If I end up heading back that way over the holidays I'll definitely stop by to check it out!

That would be great if you could. I spent a lot of time in Kumamoto's Mt. Aso region. Maybe it's time to revisit Aso... I've got such a tight schedule and only two weeks!

Thanks! I lived in Japan for 12 years. It felt like coming home. The opening was today and it went well. Five or six newspapers were there. It was a lot of fun answering their questions. I sold a print, too which was great. I'd like to post some pics of the show but only have a film camera. Won't be able to post anything until I get home.

Remaining photos are off the wall, boxed and donated to my club... sold prints signed and given to customers, the lights are off. Overall it was a successful show. Now I will just wander around with my old K1000 and beat up Holga til I come home Friday.

Sounds like you had a great show Andrew! Wish I could have seen it, but I've been down with the flu this week. Enjoy the rest of your time in Japan!

Thanks guys. I would have to say after the handful of showd I've had here over a span of 20 years, this one ranks up there as one of the best and most enjoyable. And to top it off, there was an amazingly delicious udon shop next to the gallery. The owner bought one of my prints!
