I am pleased to note that the Sangre de Cristo Arts and Conference Center, Pueblo, Colorado, will be showing about 40 photographs from my project Mexico Profundo ("Deep Mexico") during April, May, and June, 2015. The exact dates are April 11 - June 7 in the Regional Gallery. Rather than a reception, the Center will have an open house (for all current exhibits) during Pueblo's First Friday Art Walk on May 1 and an artist's talk on May 2.

Pursued over many years the project was (is, if drug cartel violence subsides) an attempt to document the culture of rural Mexico using large-format equipment, mainly 8 x 10. Most of the photographs were made in northern and western Mexico. The black-and-white photographs range in size from 4 x 5 to 8 x 10 and are about equally divided between platinum/palladium photographs and pigment-ink digital photographs. The platinum photographs are contact prints from in-camera negatives and the ink photographs are from scanned negatives. A selection of the photographs was published last year in the July/August issue of LensWork (Issue No. 113).

Sometimes I hesitate to call it a documentary project because I'm certain my productivity would have been much greater if I had used a hand-held camera rather than a stand camera, but what I gave up in numbers has been well repaid in quality, and I am very happy with the results.

Thanks,
Wayne
