I am using a 31-step Stouffer step tablet and starting to test my 4x5 sheet film. I have determined my fb+fog for my film and dev combo and and have recorded the density values for each step on the tablet.

I thought before building an Excel spreadsheet from scratch that someone out here probably has a template or file already made that will create the characteristic curve and plot the values on the proper zone? If so, let me know.

Thanks,

Tim

Something like this?

(there was a url link here which no longer exists)

Look through the thread for the most recent version, and thank Ralph Lambrecht for putting it together and making it freely available.

Michael, I took your advice and took a stab at creating my own chart. It seems simple enough as you say but I am having one problem. The Y axis is the net density (neg. density minus fb+fog) information and the X axis is the exposure.

I am trying to get the X axis to read in zone numbers (0,1,2...10) vs. in step readings (1,2,3...31).

In my first attempt I set my X axis in Excel to the calculated zone number (10 - step density / .3) and I get a result as expected by having the net density fall on the calculated zones.

I must be missing something obvious. How do I get the net density values to plot with the zone numbers? I read the Shaefer book and on page 60 he shows exactly what i want to do but doesn't explain how he did it and certainly not for Excel.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Tim

I figured out my issues and I have the graph working now. I got my EI rating and N development time.

No problem Michael, I appreciate the help. Now I am moving on to figuring out my contracted and expanded dev times and all will be good.
