Are we to allow this tripe which is beyond menudo? Does this nit without a whit come here abusing some of all the too few electrons is this world...could this be the type of person who has aspirations of being big wheel on silly truck? Are we to find this stuff funny? Is a four flusher a cheat at poker or one who has to pull her own chain 4 times as a means of character improvement? Would a person such as this criticise Ansel Adams color sense while hanging around with a paisley jacket bearded photographer from plaidworks, living in San Francisco, without the decency to play either the piano or to display a magnificently broken nose?

If this is a true story, if salt mines indeed are good places to store film--both of which strike me as doubtful propositions--and if the Pan X is shown to be usable...

...if all of this pans out (pun intended) I'm placing an order for half a brick or even a brick if price is right.

If temperature, time, humidity, X-rays or any number of other silent monsters attack film, it is usually not obvious to the photographer. Spoiled film does not announce itself until it's too late.

Bob Niklewicz, a film specialist at Eastman Kodak, is often asked to analyze ruined rolls of film. He has seen how sand-scratched film not only wrecks pictures but also expensive cameras. The only way to prevent such damage when you go to the beach, he says, is to take a disposable camera.

Natural radiation is also a problem, and because of that Kodak stores its film underground in a salt mine until it is ordered by a dealer.

Mr. Niklewicz believes that film is often damaged in the developing phase, when it is out of a photographer's control.

"I would propose that photographers consider their processing labs as being the problem," he said.

Speaking as someone who worked for a little while (long ago) on neutrino detection, I can say that salt mines are probably an ideal location to store film. The background radiation is typically very low, there are no temp shifts, and the humidity levels are easily stabilized. So it may well be that Alan's stuff is very good. There simply needs to be some testing and/or some sort of guarantee that if you do get a bad batch, there will be a timely refund.

Look, all of us who deal with older films are taking risks. I have had some risks pay off and others have been big losses. Whatever. That's the price you pay for working with a rare material and trying to produce distinctive results. Consider it a benefit: that risk factor and the cost is what keeps your average joe-sixpack-rapidshooter from using this kind of film.

$10 a roll is not unreasonable for a rare or unusual film, you wouldn't spend that for just any film though, and you wouldn't use $10 a roll film to take pictures of the family cat (except maybe a test roll). You would use $10 film for something special or unusual. Then again for something special or unusual, would you want to use a film that could potentially be complete crap due to it's age, or would you want to use a good film that you are very familiar with?

These are the questions, and why a lot of people want to see how good this stuff is, before spending money on it, myself included.

$10 a roll is way too much for me - maybe $2 per roll. I've had my day with Pan-X; if it were factory fresh I might pay $10. I'd rather shoot fresh new TMY-2 now.

But if some folks want to experience the emulsion then I won't discourage them or think badly about them or the seller, that's a personal decision.

fully vetted tested by known pro's.
and the price was between 5 -7 us dollars..sold and shipped in the states.
how difficult would it be to shift 15 -20 thousand rolls.

You must be from the US, where stuff is cheap, here in Canada most 135x36 B&W films are in the $6-9 range, so $10 is reasonable for a film that you can't shoot everyday. Given that this film is in a place where it will be expensive and dangerous to extract according to the OP, it may cost considerably more then $10 a roll to obtain, so the question of it selling for $2 or $10 may be moot, if it costs $40 a roll to get at.

So far people have asked two questions:

1) How much would it cost?
2) What kind of condition is it in?

The OP has not really answered either question, so maybe all we are doing is feeding a troll......

Okay, give is a complete cost per roll and show us some examples of images from this particular batch of film. Otherwise how do WE know that this film even exists, and that someone isn't trying to pull a fast one?

this has failed on account of cynicism.
did i ask for your canadian visa no.
did i say i had this stuff to test or sell at this moment.read my comments.
i asked you to read the last page..and your responded with the usual cynicism that seems to be the norm on this site.
get worried or nervous when you are handing over cash or credit card details..
or sending a western union transfer.
if i had the product as i already stated i would be knocking it out already without,going through this crap.

What's the verdict here? Guilty until proven innocent? Give the guy a break, it seems to me Doyle is just trying to gauge whether it's worth going after this film or not. He hasn't even asked for any money yet.

Look folks, many products have been obsoleted; naturally, there will be discoveries of stocks of these films from time to time and people are going to seek to move them onto the market. It's natural that a person would come to APUG and inquire what to do with a stash of forgotten film. No harm done to anybody. If it really gets your dander up, then use the "ignore thread" prominently displayed at bottom right. If a particular individual gets your dander up then there is another ignore button right there, see.... but if the mods determine that an individual is actually hawking something then he/she will have his/her status changed. But as yet all sales in this case are hypothetical.

You still didn't answer my questions,

1) What is the cost per roll of this film?
2) What is the quality like?

If the film can be obtained fairly inexpensively and is in good condition, then you will get a lot more interest then if it's going to be very expensive, has a lot of base fog, and the canisters are rusted because the film sat in salt water for 5 years.

This is the Internet, it's easy for someone to find a good interest in something like this, then ask for money, when in reality they ain't got crap, not saying that you are planning this, but the Internet seems to have new scams daily.

If the film is in good condition, i.e. little or no base fog, not damaged, then $5-$10 a roll seems reasonable, but I need to see sample photos, before I would be willing to buy any, and then would probably limit myself to a couple of rolls..... Someone is going to need to take a heck of a risk on this stuff, and they will either make some money on it, or end up with a nice pile of crap, that is fit only for recycling.

I think we can all agree that the product is not "factory fresh" by any means so the film's potential value lies in an independent evaluation by qualified folks.

Again, I ask the question, when can you supply Sandy King or PE or someone with a densitometer with some samples?

And once they post results, we can talk price and volume.

So, when you get your hands on the product and we have some sense of the quality and condition of the film, only then can we commit to quantities, depending again on the price. Without some hard, verified data, I doubt very seriously you could move 100 rolls at $5-7.

So, as the old saying goes, 'where's the beef?' A little less of the old 'soft shoe' and let's get down to business here or get off the pot.
