I have been in touch with the EU-Japan Centre for Industrial Cooperation / EEN Japan regarding the applicability of preferential treatment of used photo equipment from Japan. Their reply makes it clear that such items will NOT enjoy the benefits of the Japan-EU EPA. They MUST pay the customs duty notified in the EU. This is currently 6.7%. Please see a screenshot of the relevant portion of the email. I hope this is useful for everyone importing used photo equipment into the EU.
Thanks,
Kumar
