Those who know me, and my Yankee proclivities, will not be surprised to find that I am using old, expired film most of the time, especially sheet film, that I pick up for very little or no money. I got a couple of boxes of various expired packs last year at Photographica that included some “Essex” brand film in 2.25 x 3.25, ASA 100. One of the boxes had been opened and the middle section of the three-part packaging was missing. There is no date on the boxes nor any manufacturer’s name or logo, though it does say “made in England” and the graphics make me thing early 70’s. I shot two sheets from that opened pack, one from the outside of the stack and one from the middle. The outside had edge fogging, but the middle one was almost perfect, with very little fog at all. Not knowing what developer would be best, I went with HC110 A and souped it for 6 minutes. Luckey guess.
Has anyone ever used, heard of or seen this stuff before? I have been everywhere I can think of on the web, even looking at a long list of every film ever released (so they say) by Ilford––no Essex. It’s interleaved with black paper and wrapped in light proof paper, no plastic bag. Thick base (.007 in).
