Esmeralda County Courthouse, Goldfield Nevada & 3 Ancient B&L lenses!

For those of you who may enjoy a 10 minute voyage into the wonders of Central Nevada hinterlands, I've just put up a new page at my website with photos done last Friday Feb. 2 2007 in Goldfield Nevada at the Esmeralda County Courthouse.

I used 3 very vintage Bausch & Lomb product 1905 * lenses on my (there was a url link here which no longer exists)

Take a look and tell me what you thought. Love to hear your responses. Thanks!

*actually the lenses run from approx 1895 for the 10X12 ROC RR 15 3/8" to 1905 for the 10X12 Series V Protar, to perhaps 1925 for the 8X10 Protar. Educated guesses all.

I thought they really captured the atmosphere of the place! You cover Nevada with such beauty & expression I suspect they'll probably make a giant neon Jim Galli and put you on the roof of a casino before too long!

Jim, the photographs, as usual, are simply great! Your tones amaze me.

I think what I enjoyed most though, was the visual journey back in time. That court house is perfect! I love it when things are left as they were. Lucky you to have gotten that opportunity to shoot up the inside (the kind of shooting the law likes ) Guess there was a reason for that ticket after all. For that, I'm glad.

My last "meeting" with the Nevada HP wasn't as fortunate, but the officer was very decent and didn't write me up for my real speed (84 mph). He said if I paid the ticket and didn't go to court, he wouldn't tell the judge I wasn't going 65 in a 55, as he had written on the citation. The best part of the series for me is the big horn sheep in the court room. Now that is a touch of class. Nicely done Jim. tim

I think you have outdone yourself! The quality of these images just put me in the moment. Beautiful period looking photos with the quality of light and nothing out of time or place in the image. It makes me want to run right out there and see it for myself, but I some how wonder if it would look the same through my eyes, or if all the magic was captured in the images.

These wonderful photos bring back memories of the day I spent several years ago photographing in Goldfield. Of all the small old towns I have visited, the people of Goldfield were the most welcoming and helpful I have known. Hopefully I will get back there soon.

I forgot to mention that the story I was told about the rams head was that a poacher was caught and faced the judge. He was found guilty ad his punishment was to have the head mounted and give it to the court.

Whether that story is true or not, it makes a good one and fits this wonderful little town.

I really love Esmeralda County.

I hope that the touritsts flocking there as a result of your essay and photographs---

go back home where they belong as soon as they have seen it and never return....once is enough for them Jim...

you should have mentioned, the wonderful Western Diamond Backs, the Mojave Greens, the Skinwalkers, and Jim you know what else and all...they are naive, unsuspecting, we don t really need any more of that...do we...for goodness sakes....look what "they" have done to Vegas...the "Nevadan's vote" doesn't count anymore....its those California and New York City retirees and their 6 passenger golf carts! I Was 50 miles up the 2 lane rt 93....middle of nowhere, training my homing pigeons and there is a brand new "town" the golf courses are in, green and watered, even before the first domicile...planned town of a couple hundred thousand....where oh where can I go.....:confused:

Almost got the story right....It was the poacher's head that was mounted....he was from California...
