Epson 1430

I made the mistake of thinking I could get back into photography with a decent size printer and chose the epson1430...wrong! I have spent the last two days trying to install it. I have been installing hardware since windows 95! I love that no matter what the problem with hardware is it is the customers fault! Apparently my computer is not pure enough even after I disabled all the security and shut down the Seti programs. The soft ware recognizes the printer and then hangs. Either way with wireless or USB cable. Epson is no help!
So unless someone has a solution I begin the arduous task of boxing up this monster and returning it to Amazon.

It installed perfectly on my Mac. I hate Windows.

You may want to download QuadToneRIP and see if you can get it to work that way.; It may just be a lemon.

Got lucky with the 1430

I lucked out. got my upstairs WiFi laptop and installed the software no problem, Then hooked up the UBS cable from the printer to the desktop and it's off to the races! Now I need to learn this printer and especially how to reduce the excessive contrast I am getting which of course is a total waste of expensive ink . Suggestions?

I'm not familiar with that printer or the software you are using but you might try using the printer profile* for the paper you are using as a start. What you see on the monitor isn't always what you get in a print. it might take calibrating your systems. Or trial and error with several papers to find what works for you. My Epson 3880 came with a nicely illustrated instruction book. I bought sample packs of paper from several mfg's. i was printing before on an Epson 2200 so those were my starting points. I settled on a particular paper for exhibition quality prints and use that paper in different sizes. For general prints or to see if I want to go further I use a less costly paper but get very nice and similarly tone prints on it. The exhibition prints are on a 100% cotton rag paper from Hahnemuhle.

*ICC profile from the type and brand of paper.

If you download and install QuadToneRIP, you will find a 1430 Profile folder with couple of profiles for the Claria inks with a variety of papers. This will allow you to make B&W prints with different tones. QTR has a bit of a learning curve, but using these stock profiles will get you started fast. It's well worth the work if you want to make really fine B&W digital prints.
