Haven't touched it in a week and it suddenly won't connect to my Mac (v15.4). Does not show up in vuescan or epson scan. Was previously working fine for years and I have not moved it from where it sits.

The scanner itself seems to be working fine (powers on like normal, initiates, green light blinks then goes steady). It's connected to my Mac via a usb-b to usb-a cable, which I also just replaced today in case it was the cable - no luck.

Strange as it doesn't appear to be broken? Could this be a driver issue or could this be a mechanic (physical) issue suddenly with the scanner itself? Any advice appreciated.

Have you tried the obvious: Rebooting your Mac?
Is the scanner connected directly to the Mac, or via USB Hub?

This occasionally happens with VueScan and my Plustek. Try this:
  1. Turn off the scanner and unplug it
  2. Plug it in to your Mac
  3. Start VueScan
  4. Turn on the scanner
  5. In VueScan, choose "Find Scanners" from the Scanner menu.

Does the scanner show up under Settings - General - About - System Report (Hardware - Printers & under USB)?

Take the steps that Adam W suggests. Then if that does not work, call Epson Technical Support for help.

Did you update your computer since your last scanning session? If so, make sure your scanning software is up to date, and see if Epson's own scanning software works.

And are you certain that you were using the exact same USB cable as previously? Because it's super-common for cables bundled with a device to have only a subset of the pins connected, often just the bare minimum for that specific device. That's why I have set aside a specific cable for use with my scanner, because I know that all of the pins are properly wired.

Sometimes after updating MacOS, USB devices need to be re-authorized for security reasons. But normally there will be on-screen prompt for you to do that when you plug in the USB devices.

That worked! Thank you - strangely enough I think it was having trouble connecting through my Thunderbolt Dock. For some reason it's now only recognizing the scanner when I plug in directly to the USB-C ports on my laptop. Maybe a software upgrade switch up, who knows.

It did have me re-authorize the scanner connection once I did that, so potentially it was a usb authorization issue that the prompt wasn't coming up via dock.

I'm glad it worked!
