Epson V600 vs V700

I'm looking for advice on how much better an Epson V700 scanner is over an Epson V600. The cost difference is about $400. I'll be scanning medium format film, 6 x 4.5 and 6 x 7 mostly.

Is the cost difference justified or can the V600 deliver the goods as well as the V700?

I own a V600 only and scan MF. You can check my site for samples of MF and 35mm scans with it.

From what I've seen of other's scans with the V700, the V700 does a better job. However, what do you intend to do with the scans?

I have a V700, but since I can't compare it to anything else...so my opinion is rather moot. The V700 should be "better" than the V600 but I honestly don't know, I get good results with the V700 FFIW.

Thnaks for your comments, but I wanted to know what you want to do with the scans. If it's only for the web and small prints, the V600 will probably be sufficient. The V700 will do a little better job. But for real enlargements, you'd want to professionally scan with an otuside lab so getting a more expensive home scanner may be overkill.

Get the best scanner you can afford. The V700 TPU covers the full platen so you proof a full page of negatives; you can't do this on a V600 as the TPU covers only 2.7" x 9.5". 5x from medium format film using a V700 is very high quality as long as you use glass to keep the film flat.

I will do everything possible with my negatives. I'll post them online and print them for hanging in my home. I want as much freedom to do what I want with my work.

Then I'd go for the V700.

Choose the V700, but make sure you get betterscanning.com film holders to get the best out of it.
