Hi all-- just got a supposedly "tested and working" Epson V600 from eBay. The only issue is no matter what I try, I cant get my mac to recognize it. Ive downloaded and redownloaded drivers, turned it on and off, and checked the USB cable Im using it with on another printer. For whatever reason, under the mac's printers and scanners device list, it will not show up. If it matters, Im running macOS 11.4 Big Sur-- Im pretty sure Ive installed the correct drivers, but I wouldnt think this would cause these issues.

Curious if anyone thinks this could be a faulty USB port on the scanner itself. I have a spare in a busted printer, but Im guessing that the soldering it would take to swap it out is beyond my ability.

Thanks as always-- would love to hear any advice, good or bad

Most entries seem Apple-related. No mention of Epson anything that I can see

The one thing I am curious about is the V600 startup sequence. So far mine has made no flashing blue light or warm up noises that I've noticed. All I get is the green ON led. Because if a working scanner will go through those steps without being connected to a computer then I know this thing is not worth my trouble and will return. DIY tempting but electronics are a mystery to me

Already I'm at my limit of helpfulness. You've confirmed the port works on the Mac, you've confirmed the cable is OK, so the final test is to check if the scanner is recognised on another device. Although, actually, I would try another USB cable since they've caused 99% of my problems, historically. You've confirmed you've got power, right?

Edit: following on from your update: I think the chassis lock on Epson is mechanical only, and it blocks the USB port when locked. So I'd normally suggest checking that it's unlocked. The lack of sound and light when turned on does seem ominous.

I have the same scanner & it doesn't work when plugged into the rear usb ports of the mac only in one of the front ports does it work.
Perhaps not enough voltage in the others.

No it doesn't, also when plugged in only on software launch does it start it's sequencing.

Hmm interesting. I guess I will have to test it with something else before I attempt any disassembly. That would be a shame though thats my only computer

If you've got other USB cables to try, do so, starting with the thicker ones. Because if using a cable originally supplied with a device, it's not uncommon for the manufacturer to save money by only connecting the bare minimum of pins needed to work with that specific device. When using my Epson V700, I always use the same Belkin-branded cable because I know it works.

I guess Ill try a hub then. Hopefully I can find one in my office-- as much as I would love a working scanner, it feels a little silly investing much more money into it. cest la vie I guess

The USB cord on my V800 is a fairly heavy duty cable with ferrite chokes on each end.

Something like this: Amazon

Don't know if that helps or not.

Try calling Epson tech support. Once upon a time after getting a new computer my scanner at the time also would not be recognized. I called Epson and they said there was an issue with Apple and them and to call Apple. I don't recall exactly what we did but it was resolved by Apple tech support. I am using Os 10.15.5 currently with my V850Pro and all works fine so I avoid updates at this time.
