I have an Epson v600, it's been a champ for years. I haven't scanned any film for a few months, and am currently trying to do so. When I open the software and click on 'Preview" as I have always done, the scanner does its thing and makes all the right noises, then... nothing. The preview window does not pop up, at all. If I simply hit scan, it scans the image fine, but I need the preview as I always resize the scan, as I am currently trying to scan 6x17 negatives annd there is 9to my knowledge) no preset for that (there's 6 x 6.45 / 6 / 7 / 9 etc but nothing wider...)

I have checked to make sure my software / drivers are updates (ver 3.9.3.1 seems to be the latest available), and they are. I have restarted the scanner and computer several times, hasn't helped. Windows 10 PC, several years old but works fine otherwise, if not super speedy (I'm fine with the speed).

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions here?

I have considered over the years trying other software, and I would be fine doing so if that is my only solution, but if I can fix this I'd probably stay with the Epson software as it is good enough for what I need.

Thanks!

Download and try the preview version of Vuescan. Then you can decide if it works for you to pay for it. It's not expensive, and works very well.

Does preview work on smaller sizes like 6x7. Maybe it's having trouble because youre using 6x17.

Are you on auto sizing. Try switching to manual and draw the scan area?

Did this work before with 6x17?

If you can't work out how to resolve your issue with the epson software, your scanner comes with a free license for silverfast. All you need to do is use your serial number from the back of your scanner to create an account and download the version of the software that is appropriate for your os and scanner.

I tried messing around with the sizes for preview, and nothing worked. When I used Preview, it would scan 3 or 4 smaller images than give me the option (don't remember specific command) but I assume that is the manual, to change from smaller scans to the entire image as one, then I'd resize to fit and scan that. It has worked very well with 6x12 / 17 / and even 24 for several years, I last scanned film in October or November and for some reason it just now stopped working.

I'm going to mess around with it and move on to Silverfast if it doesn't work, for whatever reason I COMPLELTEY forgot that I am eligible for a free version of this even though I have had the scanner for several years, I was able to just get the software. I'm just used to the process with Epson scan, and as it has worked fine I haven't explored other options until now.

I just did that, I completely forgot that I get that for free. I'm just accustomed to the process with the Epson software and would like to not have to learn a whole new process is all !
