Epson V500 Scanner on MAC Mini M4 MACos 15

I recently purchased the above MAC configuration and migrated my V500 from Windows 10. When I went to download the Epson V500 software, the Epson Copy Utility was not included (see attached). From Googling I've found that others were using the MAC Image Capture utility in it's place. This may be fine for simple scans but for positive or negative transparencies, I need to scan and sae each image (e.g. slide) separately (See attached)

I found it impossible to find a Epson Forum/Contact for their scanners where I could post a question on the missing Epson Copy Utility. The best I found was this page where they say "Epson will provide macOS 15 Sequoia drivers and software for Epson products on an on-going basis."

My current conclusion is that I need to purchase a 3rd party scanning program, like Vuescan, in order to get more convenient functionality when scanning film and slides.

What are others doing with the V500 on MACos 15 Sequoia.

edit: I just realised that it's only listed up to macOS 13, but if you haven't tried it might be worth a shot anyway if it runs...

I should add that I find the bundled Epson software (for V750 to V850 at least) rather poor when dealing with color negatives (b/w and slides are kinda ok).

Silverfast can provide very good colors if used properly, but unfortunately it's rather costly and the interface is clunky.

I use Epson scan 2 with OS 15.3 for a V600 Photo.

ISn't Epsonscan 2 for Apple and Epsonscan for Windows. Try loading Epsonscan 2.

Click on the scrolldown window and select the appropriate download for MAC. This list goes to MAC 015s. Note that these downloads are for the V850 which is why they have the latest versions of software. The V500 is no longer manufacturered.

Thanks for the suggestions. They made me think of what may be compatible so I try the downloads for the V550 since it was in the same family. No joy. I wouldn't even see the V500.

EDIT: It looks like the drivers are product specific so will not find others. @EricTheReddish I didn't even try to download an earlier version since Epson had already dropped it from later releases. I could be MACos 10 was only on Intel. MACos 15 is Apple M4.

I'm not sure if my configuration is mucked up by installing the V550 but I can't get the V500 to work with Image Capture. I get a flashing red status light. The V500 also does not go through the normal tests when I power it on so I suspect it may be failing.

EDIT: Discovered that Image Capture initiates a scan base on the last settings used. That meant it was trying to call the V500 for a transparency scan which the V500 was not setup for so it raised an error. I had to wait until IC decided to open the options again so I could change it to flatbed again.

For those who come later. If you are looking just for flatbed scanning, MAC's Image Capture may satisfy your needs.

If others are like me and want to use the slide and film adapters and try to simulate features like scanning all slides/film at once, then you will need to purchase VUEscan Professional. Only the PRO version provides the ability to work with the slide and film adapters.

I have an Epson V500 and an Intel Mac, but not Sequoia OS. I have scanned negative film strips with it using Epson Scan. I haven't used it in a bit so this is based on memory:

- I don't think Epson Scan 2 supports the V500, only Epson Scan (1).

- I didn't use the Epson Copy utility. I think the purpose of that is to send images directly from the scanner to a printer. I don't think you should need it to just scan and save images.

To me, the question is whether Epson has released a version of Epson Scan [version 1] for Apple silicon. If it has, you should get that - the exact version of the OS is less important. If Epson has not, then you probably need to either use Vuescan, or get an older Mac with Intel silicon (I understand not everybody wants to keep multiple computers around, but if you want to use old scanning hardware sometimes this is a good option).

Do you have a link? I've had a hard time finding a way to contact Epson.

FWIW, the transition from Intel to Apple Silicon seems to have made vendors look twice about what they want to port. I have one software utility still running under Rosetta instead of native. I suspect if there are issues found, vendors just don't port the software, in any form, to Apple Silicon.

Just to clarify, Mac OS 15 Sequoia still runs on (some) Intel Macs, and it supports Intel binaries on Apple Silicon via Rosetta.
