Epson V500 Problem

I'm about to go berserk. I'm scanning some medium format film this evening, black and white negatives. I've never had this problem before, but the Epson Scan software keeps checking the Digital Ice option by default. If I don't catch it, it launches into ten minutes of scanning that I can only cancel by powering the scanner off mid-scan. (Never mind that it ruins the image scans since Digital Ice doesn't even make sense with black and white scanning.)

Can anyone help? I've perused manuals and settings; I'm not sure what's changed. Thanks.

I found the use of Hamrick's Vuescan to be by far better than Epson's included software. Maybe you would want to try it.

I don't use Epson Scan but you should check the preferences. Also trashing the plist for that application and then reopening should reset the defaults. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable then me will have a better answer.

Hi

probably too late, but put your scanner into professional mode and don't use thumbnails. I know this post is about scanning colour, but just check black and white instead of colour and the rest applies

in my view ...: Bulk slide scanning job

I also suggest you use the setting of positive rather than negative so that it keeps the controls in linear operation. This will result in your needing to post process those images in an editor like photoshop, but depending on the amount you can scan directly into photoshop and have some actions setup to do that for you.

Driven in this manner I've found that Epsons scanning software gives equal results to anything else, but with less 'learning curve' required.
