I replaced my ink after about one month of disuse and the yellow and red nozzles are completely clogged. I wasted over half the new ink trying to unclog the unit after cleaning according to various u-Tube videos and even a call to the local Epson repair house.

With no luck I called Epson support in the USA and was told I should have done a cleaning every two weeks and a nozzle check frequently. I then asked why the manual for the printer did not tell me this. His reply was this is only a suggestion. So I countered with well if I did not do anything counter to the required maintenance in the manual (no maitenance required) only three sets of ink and the printer is now defective is not reasonalbe durabilty. No they said, you need to do maintenace. So I asked again, what is the required maintenance. He said Epson is unwilling to specify that, only suggest. I countered with why not add the sugestion to the manual. He then said it was a pleasure serving me and signed off.

Hmm, single customer vesus a huge electronic congloomerate. Guess who wins and who loses.

I am out of luck. I now have a $800 boat anchor. Oh yeah, six cleaning cycles consumed over 1/2 my ink in a new set of cartidges. Not that it matters, I cannot print anymore.

Just thought I would warn all, when you buy an ink jet printer from Epson, make sure you call Epson technical support and ask for the "suggested maintenance". Of course you cannot be really sure the suggested maintenance is really correct. A convenient way to suck you dry of ink, grab $200 bucks at a time and force you to buy a new printer.

Any suggestions for a compatible printer that is not Epson?

You could probably have the nozzles replaced or cleaned by a repair technician for less than the cost of a new printer. A friend had a similar problem with his 3880 and the repair was much less than a replacement printer. I had a 2200 and now a 3880 and was told to print something at least once a week. I used the 2200 for 10+ years and donated it to a nonprofit arts organization. It is still working perfectly and the only repair was to replace the ink pads by a printer technician at a cost of $90 since they were almost full. You can just print a nozzle check if you don't need to print other material. Their suggestion to print regularly is good advice regardless of which brand of printer you use. Also check to see if there are nozzle cleaning cartridges for your printer - that may solve the problem.

If you don't want an Epson check out Canon.
