Epson 750 Pro MF holder issues

My negative sleeves are the 3 neg per row variety. It's what I have been using for decades. I like them, I don't want to change. Yes grumpy old man.

When I put 2 strips of negs into the Epson MF neg holder and do a preview it's all messed up. It cuts negs in half and all kinds of weird stuff. I tried messing with the document and target settings and created a custom profile. Nothing works.

Any suggestions.

I don't know what the holders for the 750 are like but when a lightning strike took out my electronics I had to replace my trusty old 4780. I got the 850. The medium format holder only holds one strip of three. I actually liked the 4780 holder better and tried it. It wouldn't work. I use Silverfast Ai studio 8 scanner software and there is a setting for glass which I used on one occasion to see if it would work and it did but it doesn't hold the film above the glass for focus. Check your scanning software it might have a setting that you can work around or there might be a way to modify your old holder.

Let me make two guesses:

1. You're scanning B&W negatives.
2. You have infrared scratch and dust removal enabled.

The silver in B&W negatives completely scrambles the iSRD function in the Epson scanners. The results are mostly random, but closely match what you're describing.

grat may have your answer. I have never used that feature . It was part of either the Epson or Silverfast instructions from when i first got the original scanner many years ago so i never bothered with it for either B&W or color. Just made corrections with PhotoShop.

My Epson scanner is much older than your 750 - it's a 500 - but I experience similar problems using Epson Scan when I preview MF negatives. For some reason the software has all kinds of trouble recognizing frames and cuts frames in half as you describe. It has started doing the same with 35mm lately, although only occasionally, while it never did it in the past.

I gave up trying to solve the problem with MF years ago and just uncheck the [thumbnails] box and preview the frames one at a time. It's a hassle and I wish I didn't have to do it but I'm happy enough with the resulting scans that I've just sorta made peace with the process.

Umm, IR dust removal is ticked off. Will try it without.

In EpsonScan Professional mode click on the Configration box at the bottom of the settings window then click on Film Size and select the frame size for the medium format you are using.
My V700 does not scan the entire glass area. I sometimes put the 8x10 outline on first so that I don't exceed its boundry. Also when loading the negative nearest the calibration notch it should be as close as possible to the edge of the holder opening as the spacing between te negatives msy be pushing one image too far down even if it is not beyond the lower edge of the opening.
