Epson 2450 with Betterscanning holder

Hello,

This question is specific to the Epson 2450, since that is what I currently have and use.

I want to purchase the betterscanning MF holder for that, but before that I want to see if anyone has used this scanner with that holder?

I currently use it with the stock holders and I am quite disappointed with the results. On the one hand, I sometimes face issues with film curvature, but even for those that are flat, the results looks quite soft and robbed of sharpness. I know this because I compared my scans with scans made from a V750 (same negative) and the difference even without any cropping is quite apparent.

Before I spend $$$ on the V700/V750, I want to explore other alternatives like the betterscanning holder to see if I can get improvements. I want printable scans and I don't intend to enlarge beyond 11x14 or 16x20 (mostly 8x10 to 11x14).

I would appreciate any input.

Avi, I used the betterscanning MF holder for the V750. I know this is not quite your question, but perhaps by analogy my experience will be helpful. I found the betterscanning holder to be far superior to the Epson holder. Really, night and day. If I recall, the betterscanning cost something like $150 with antialias glass for each slot in the holder. That setup was great.

I used to use the Betterscanning holders with ANR glass with an Epson 2450. I primarily scanned 6x6 film and was very satisfied with 8x10 carbon transfer and palladium prints.

Thanks for your input. It is good to know that it makes so much of a difference.

I would buy the MF holder in a heartbeat, but if I were to move upto the V700 in the future, the 2450 holder becomes incompatible.

Thanks! Did you by any chance compare it with results from the stock holder? Have you gone larger than 8x10?

- the flimsy stock holder is not capable of holding 120 film flat. This is true of the Epson V700 holder, too.
I don't understand why they cripple their scanners with such poor holders.

- Sorry, I haven't printed larger than 8x10 with scan from the 2450 or the V700. I'm sure the medium format
(6x6, 6x9) scans are decent, it's just that I make small carbon transfer and palladium prints.
