Epson 2450 - problems scanning negatives - HELP

Hi

I bought my self a "new" scanner today, the Epson 2450. Wish I am only gona use for scanning of negativ/positiv 35mm.
I did some research online and the scans looked promising. So i hooked it up, installed my software (first with Image capture) but the results where horrible, it was nothing. I have now tried epsons add on for Image capture, VueScan and SilverFast, but the results are the same.

Can anybody help with this? Is it fixable?

Why such an old beast? At its best 35mm scans won't be very good.
1st. do you have the factory USB cable for it or are you using a generic?
The USB cable should have the filter bulge on it, try a new/different USB cable.
Make sure all cables are plugged in properly.
2nd. try a different USB port.
What operating system are you using?

It could be the USB cable, im not sure. The cable I have does not have a filter bulge on it.
What is weird is that the regular scan is perfect, but switching to negativs makes it go haywire.
The screenshots was done on a Imac with OS 10.8.5. Have also tried it on my macbook with OS 10.11.5

I'm not familiar with Mac but it could be a corrupt scanner driver. I would completely uninstall the scanner and related software, wipe the free space with a drive wiping utility then reinstall the driver and software with any antivirus software turned off and all other programs closed.
Of course try the cable first.
Do you have the document cover removed from the transparency adapter/scanner lid?

Are you using the film holder? Do you have the film holder oriented in the correct direction so that the calibration gap/notch is in the right place? Your results look very much like what happens when the holder is not being used or not placed in the correct position on the scanner.

SOLVED!
Hey guys! I found out what was wrong, and I am quite embarrassed. It turns out I forgot to remove the document cover...
In any case, the scanner works and ships out quality scans. Thanks to everybody how to the time to wright, and special thanks to shutterfinger for the suggestion.
