EOS3--battery?

Does the EOS3 use a battery? If so, which kind and how many? I just got an EOS3 but I left it home and can't check. Thanks.

That looks like the right battery. I have a Pentax that also uses a 2CR5. I've not tried a rechargeable 2CR5 though. Mine currently has an alkaline battery in it.

Rechargeable 2CR5 (and others) have a poor reputation for use in cameras. If you want to save money get the Battery grip and good rechargeable AAs.

+1 to this. I used a rechargable 2cr5 in my eos5 and it didn't last long at all. Plus the recharger isn't that well built. For the cash outlayed on the recharge setup its actually cheaper to buy normal 2cr5's. I have both Duracell Ultras and Energiser 2cr5s and they last ages.

Thanks. I ended up buying reguar Energizer batteries. Not the rechargeable kind.

Good choice. Regular batteries last for plenty of time in my EOS3.

I have had bad experiences with Energizer rechargeable batteries. I have the battery pack on my EOS 3 and with 8 Eneloop AA batteries it has been 6 months since I have seen any drop in charge. 2-4 rolls a week. Lot of the times I "forget" to turn it off.

Nothing really wrong with 2CR5 batteries in a functional sense, but they are expensive and have a shorter life than rechargeables. And not as commonly found in many countries.
One thing to avoid with 2CR5s in EOS bodies that use them (EOS 3, EOS 5/Elan, 1N among others)is any lens with an image stabiliser on it that takes power from the 2CR5 in the camera: it will drain the battery very quickly. Not as commonly reported now with more modern reserved lenses, but the major culprit I am aware of is Canon's old 75-300mm IS tele lens (around 1995; still common on the second hand market). Other pricier lenses in the L-series range are a bit easier on power but image stabilisation will still tax a 2CR5, hence many cameras use or offer alternative power sources, like the power drive booster (8 AA alkaline or AA lithium).

I bought a new EOS body 2 years ago, the battery cost more than the camera !!!!!!!!

CR5 batteries are common items on the discount battery internet sites - at much lower prices than the ones in stores.

I usually buy them in packs of 10 for ca. 35€ including shipping - lasts ca. 5 years for me.
