EOS 1v problems

Hi all, looking for some advice regarding my EOS 1v
When loading film it sounds as though it has been taken up, but film does not wind on when I release the shutter button. I opened the back to see what was happening and discovered the shutter was not opening when fired. Any ideas as to what has gone wrong?

Although no longer in production I believe Canon is still supporting the EOS1V until 2024.

I don't know about Canon UK, but Canon USA no longer repairs the EOS-1V. You'd have to send it to Japan.

According to this page, Canon Japan will be servicing the EOS-1V until October 2025:

Oh, didn't know that you had to send to Japan. Still possible to get a repair, that's good.

The problem with the film not being taken up could be the film. Automatic take up can have issues with the film not catching. Roll the end of the film between your fingers to put more curve in it. That usually does it for me.

On some automatic cameras the shutter does not fire with the back open. I guess they thought it would be safer that way. Take the lens off, put the camera on bulb and check it from the front.

The EOS-1V will fire with the back open - just verified it with one of mine.
