If you would like to be able to make portraits in any environment, using existing light only, in a minimum amount of time and with predictable results, this is the course for you. Youll learn to see existing/available light, how to evaluate and use that light in terms of your equipment and materials and gain the ability to pre-visualize your end product, either color or black and white, using film or digital capture methods. Through slide lectures and illustrated demonstrations, Kurt will outline a logical way to deal with light quality, direction, and a systematic approach to exposure determination. Placing your subject in their environment in terms of the light and geometry combinations available and making them comfortable throughout the experience will be our focus. There will be thorough critiques and discussions of your personal portfolios and visual answers to ongoing assignments. You will need at least a 35mm SLR camera with interchangeable lenses, a tripod, and usual accessories and know how to use them as this is not a beginning workshop. Kurt will be demonstrating with his Canon digital system and any format is acceptable for your personal work. You should be a serious amateur or professional that has a few years experience in order to benefit the most from this course.
