One of my enlarging lenses (Schneider) has lost its keeper. Has anybody got any idea where I can get an empty keeper? A Schneider one would be ideal but it is not absolutely essential. I can't find them for sale anywhere. I don't want the lens getting dusty or damaged when not in use and I can only keep one lens on the enlarger.

I use round food storage containers from the grocery store (new ones).
The so-called "disposable" ones have worked well for me, but there are similar ones made with heavier materials. I presume similar products are available on your side of the pond. They stack, and are inexpensive to obtain. The ones I use have screw-on lids.

The bubbles for Nikkor enlarging lenses seem somewhat common on ebay, likely Schneider ones too, though I've not had a reason to look. You could also post a "Want to buy" in the classifieds section, there are probably APUGgers who have extras or are willing to part with one.

Which lens? I have some kicking around, and store my lenses capped in a drawer. Pm me, I'm not often on, but should be over the weekend if not before.

Sometimes the popon/off caps for medicine vials just happen to fit.

The Nikon bubble case for 39mm thread lenses comes up on ebay.com, search for "Nikon bubble lens case" I bought five this spring for about $10 each.

Thank you for the replies. I do see that the Nikon bubble lens case comes up on eBay.com but there are none on eBay.co.uk. @sepiareverb That is very kind of you. It is a Schneider Componon-S 80mm with a standard Leica mount so the blue base Schneider keeper would work. It may be that the shipping is prohibitive to the UK.

I wonder if a 39mm to whatever step ring wouldn't screw right on there? Assuming that yours has a 39mm thread that is. Not at all sure if the thread pitch would be the same.

I recently found myself w/ two Federal enlargers, five lenses w/ different size threads, no baseboards that would fit any of the lenses, and no retaining rings for anything. So like the old saying, necessity is (often) the mother of invention.

The base boards were made from a variety of materials using different techniques (flat thin board, cut down and glued together plastic jar lids, and in one case, cardboard and thick mat board that I applied numerous thick coats of acrylic paint to strengthen). The lens retainers started out as flat pieces of plastic cut from thick jar lids, and I cut a hole in them that was a little smaller than the lens thread openings. After continuing to file and cut I got them to self thread on the lenses, and twisted them down until they were really tight. Worked perfectly. The lenses are true, and the prints are sharp.

@ Momus. I'm asking about where to get a replacement "keeper", the plastic box to store the lens when not in use. It's an expensive lens and I don't want it damaged.

Yessir, I bought 10 Nikon bubbles @ $5 ea. to have in reserve (ebay)!

Out of country has gotten pretty pricey from the US. If you don't turn one up and want it just let me know and I can investigate shipping cost.
