I recently bought this enlarger off of ebay, and assumed it had the proper connections for powering it, since he said he powered it up and it worked. When I received it, It didnt come with a standerd (US) power plug, but instead, I got this contraption at the end. (sorry about the resolution, the only digital camera I could find was my Treo.) The resolution is horrible, but you can still kinda make it out, its a 6-pronged plug in.
Any help as to how I can power the enlarger up would be great.

Thanks

I do believe that plug is designed for a specific timer. perhaps a Google search or fellow apugers could give a more specific answer.

You will need the following:

Dual Dichro / DGA Stabalized Power Supply
Beseler Catalog # 8191

That plug goes into this power supply. You can then plug the power supply into a timer.
These come up on *bay.

Sometimes this place is a good resource for various Beseler parts.

Hi,
Contraptions of that type are used to connect a color head to an external power supply. The multiple pins allow the PS to supply different voltages for the fan and lamp and allow the fan to continue to run when the timer is switched off. Did the enlarger come with a power supply? i.e., a small box, heavy relative to its size with the female mate of that connector. Secondly, what lamp is installed in the head? e.g., ESJ, ELC,

I can't find just the power supply anywhere. Would the people at Beseler be able to sell just the power supply?

It is an EJL-5 lamp.

And it did not come with a box like that.

I think, as the fellow above mentioned, the likely source for a PS is going to be Ebay. I would feel however that, if I was told the enlarger was operational and the description did not mention otherwise, a PS should have been included. (otherwise how could the seller have confirmed that the item was in functional order) I think you should take the issue up with the seller 1st unless the description was specific about not including a PS.

I have that same head that I bought new, but with a standard plug. In the manual it states that you can use it with the stabilized power supply and gives the part number that is listed in the post above. I do not recall seeing the power supply listed on Beselers sight though, so ebay may be your best bet. You will also need the diffuser that goes in place of the condensers, or the conic light integrator if you wish to use this with the condensers rather than the diffuser.

reticenti,
As Pelerin said. If you didn't get the power supply with it I would go back to the seller. As it is it's incomplete and the seller has at the very least misrepresented the device. You should either return the unit or have him provide the power supply. Let him buy it on Ebay if he doesn't have it on hand.

There are a choice of stabilized and unstabilized power supply but there must be a power supply that came with it.

At some time relatively recently (1997?) Beseler changed their approach to their colour heads for some of their medium format enlargers. Previously, they required a separate power supply. The newer heads have the power supply built in.

In addition, and very confusingly, they had earlier changed the plugs on the heads that do require the power supply, with the older ones using a proprietary plug, and the newer ones using a standard AC wall plug.

I have had success in the past telephoning the Charles Beseler Company head office in New Jersey to get information.

One observation - the OP should ask the seller if he/she neglected to send the power supply in error - they are strange looking things, and if this was one of those "I don't know what this is" eBay sales, they may not have realized the significance of that heavy box that isn't particularly well labeled.
