I find myself in need of a enlarger lens 39mm retaining ring.
The big auction site has many Chinese offerings, some listing M39, but isn't the pitch not standard metric series?

How to make sure to get to right one, or, are the typical Chinese-sourced "M39" parts close enough?

An auction site enlarger lens I got came with a mystery lensboard, with integrated proper thread 39mm ring.
As my older enlarger lacks a lensboard, I could make a new one accepting my mystery part. or roll the dice with an odd-spec'd auction part..?

Any 39mm lens retaining ring I've tried has worked as well as any other one, although some are more convenient because they have holes or slots that make it easier to get sufficient purchase when trying to loosen them.

For mounting enlarger lenses on Linhof Copal 1 boards i use cheap M39->M42 rings, works for me.

Enlarger is an old DeJur Versatile II, a local rescue, missing lensboard.
Easy enough to make a rectangular template for a homemade lensboard, so the concern is with the ring of proper thread.
It isn't the lensboard or enlarger that is most likely to matter (when it comes to retaining rings) - it is the threads on the lens.
What lens is it?

Nothing fancy, standard issue EL-Nikkor 5mm 1:4

@locutus I was thinking using the same thing, after spending 20 minutes on the bay!

Then probably any 39mm retaining ring will suffice.
Make sure that your lens board is at least as thick as the distance (if any) between the back of the lens housing and the beginning of the threads.

I have a spare (or three) M-39 retaining ring if you are in need. Feel free to contact me with your mailing info.

Although retaining ring is the proper term, search for “39mm jam nut”. You’ll find them on eBay, B&H, Amazon, etc.

They are neither rare or exotic.

I’ll agree with Matt King. M39 thread is very standard and not hard to find. You’ll attach it and forget about it, unless you have some reason to be changing enlarging lenses on one board often. If for some reason you wanted to get fancy, I suppose you could order a new one from Rodenstock or some such, but there isn’t much reason to do so.
