Yes. There are doohickies (technical term!) that you can insert into the 2800-series print drums (which can be used with the CPE) to allow you to load 5x7 and 8x10.


The aforementioned doohicky will allow you to load that. With XTOL 1:1, you could process it safely. 3 8x10 units requires 300mL of concentrate, diluted 1:1 makes 600mL, which maxes out the CPE capacity.

And if you use XTOL replenished, no problem whatsoever!

I run two 7x17" sheets in 2xxx drums with the extension tube. There is a one inch space left, which would let me run two 8x20" sheets.

Ergo, 8x10 and 5x7 fit.

Hmm, shouldn't he be closing the film tank? It seems he's using the cogwheel top designed for other machines (ATL). I think he should use the "inversion top" and close it with the red lid. Otherwise chemistry might flow out into the water bath.

The fluid limits for Jobo tanks keep the pool level low enough that the chemistry won't run out if you keep the tank level and don't slosh it. The inversion lid is just a safety margin if you're doing horizontal rotary processing. Definitely not a bad idea but also not absolutely required.

2. Much higher price point across the board as in MSRP & cost to build in terms of more parts, complexity of design & man hours.
3. Some incompatibility with the less expensive & more prolific CPE/CPP models?

Well, Dan, you are quite right with your thoughts.
The ATL processors were designed mostly for / make most sense in professional labs. They have a more complex design compared to a CPP / CPE and were much more expensive in the past. And due to the higher complexity and lower production volume a new ATL processor would of course cost significantly more than a new CPP-3 if Jobo would now produce a new ATL again.
Therefore the market for a new ATL would be almost exclusively the professional lab market.
An ATL is e.g. a very good supplement for the popular C41 and E6 roller-transport developing machines for 135 and 120 films. With the ATL then BW 135, 120 and sheet film, and C41 / E6 colour sheet film are developed. Lots of labs are working this way.
And those labs of course already have an ATL. And those who want to extend their service currently still have no problem to get a used ATL in good condition, or to get a refurbished ATL (e.g. from a Jobo specialist like K.-D. Seynsche Fotolaborservice).
Therefore the market for a new ATL is currently probably (yet) too small (we've discussed that topic at our Jobo factory visit). But that is only the short-term outlook. Jobo is permanently observing the market. The situation may be different in the mid- and long-term, if more new labs enter the market in a stronger future film revival, and / or more of the established labs want to replace their older ATLs by new ones or want to extend their capacity or services.

Hi,

just a little update on the encouraging Jobo news from the Photokina last week:
1. Jobo presented their complete film-products programme including the brand-new CPE-3 film processor (see above). The interest from the visitors there was huge: Every time when I was there over the days the booth was full of visitors. And the visitors were very happy to see the new products and Jobo's commitment to film. Also lots of (still ) digital photographers have been there, and from the talks you get the information that there is a renewed interest in film again.
2. Jobo is further increasing their support for film by being now the official distributor for Chamonix for Europe:

A cooperation which makes much sense: High quality cameras and high quality film processing machines and accessoires for all formats including large format. A perfect match.
