In my humble case, I would like to know whether this comment of yours is as it reflects or it really has justified reasons behind (I'm not talking about any work to compare with) ... and if so, I'd like to read it, even if what you have to say it is not my cup of tea!

Pure experience (50 yrs worth), including a BA in Art History.

I don't judge their work and I don't agree with most of their reasons for using film but I am happy that they are using film. More users, more film used, more film made and cheaper film.

im almost in the same boat, 40+ years experience, degree in art /architectural history and 31 years doing assignment work
yet i wouldn't call the work posted / linked to as " barf "
sorry to sound like a real jerk, but ..
one could call blown out highlights, dark / contrast everything but composition 1st uploads as bad-things but no one did ...
i've always been under the impression that an open mind is a good thing, even if the "artwork" looked at isn't one's cup of tea

I am all for more people shooting film. I encourage it. However, if photograhers publish their images, they are fair game for critique. Presumably, since we only see one image from each of these photographers, they selected it because the felt it was among their best. Just because you are using film doesn't insulate you from comment.

I'd agree that when one puts their work out there, criticism should be expected. The criticism should be constructive and specific, if offered. "Barf" is neither.

I love it! anybody who uses film is A-OK in my book. And they are trying different things to get different effects. They remind me of ME when I was in High School trying everything in the school's photography club.
I have so many negatives of experiments it is insane. I even went to try the schools only roll of infrared film. I had to buy a 25A filter to do it. For a 16 year old it came out pretty good I have to say.

To those people on that web site I salute you and wish you decades of experiments and fun!!!

To Mr chip. don't be a wet blanket, all photographers have to start somewhere and calling their work "barf" reflects badly on you, not on them.

i see that too, the work is out there and one should be able to say whatever
he or she or they want, but calling something "barf" and then no reason why, or explanation .. is kind of mean spirited.
i know we live in a mean spirited society nowadays. being harsh is kind of praised by some folks but i always learned
if one was going to give some sort of "critique" even on "the gong show" jp morgon give a reason for gonging the poor contestant ...

Excuse me chip j

In your first post with your humble opinion, you gave a definition (judgment), so the way you can come up w/"Reasons" is to show that your definition is because you've thought ideas and you've ordered concepts, giving you the opportunity to state reasons to come to such a conclusion. Pretty easy to understand! (The same applies to the definition of "not rational", unless you want to hide yourself "there").

"Mystical Art": Art is the conveyance of an idea, and in that we are now.

One person may know a lot about something, one person may have an impeccable and splendid cultural and educational experience, and that very same person may be rude at the same time (plenty of examples out there). IMHO I do not have to justify with my years of experience nor the learning received, that for those reasons my opinion/work is superior to anyone's, nor any inferior either. I found your comments, again in my humble opinion, very aggressive, if you do not show that there is more than rudeness in your words and there is no other content behind, we shall stay with that.
