I'll take the survivalist thing as far as home b&w development for hybrid workflow but homebrew C-41 and E6 just doesn't work for me. As long as my lab stays afloat, I'm shooting film but when that punks out it's over except for b&w.

I understand that. It works for me because I have a Jobo and it's easy. I've done it without one and it works and isn't really that difficult, but I might well decide if I didn't have the Jobo that it's more trouble than it's worth.

It's the not mail ordering I found odd. But then again even in the old days I lived in a small town and in the 80s and 90s had to mail order the vast majority of stuff I used, and in those days it was mail or phone and not Internet with computer shopping carts and instant access to inventory information. Film processing is more like it used to be (I did get film processed locally when I didn't do color) but it's easy, if not fast. Fill out the form, drop in mail with film. Takes a while though, granted.

Lucky you. With a JOBO, I'd gladly hunker down and do it. I'm in a big city(Toronto) with a large imaging community.Film's infrastructure here collapsed 5-7 years ago. Kodak Canada closed in 2005. C-41 and E6 lines at pro labs ground to a halt. Even cheap Noritsu/Fuji Frontier labs for 35mm closed at large discount stores in the last 2 years. Demand for film services is near rock bottom. 120 is all I shoot now for film and I'm dealing with one good and(so far)busy lab that still does quality work.

More real estate and people than Oz. What's not to like?

Canada's too cold and wet. Oz is too hot and dry.

Oh excuse me- I gotta go. Gotta get ready for fire season.

Let me try this again: the labs aren't there, at least for Canada. but mail order processing would sorely test my loyalty to any film if it were the only processing option.

My lazy streak has me using mail order with a local lab here in the Ottawa area. I figure ten bucks postage each way is cheaper than a 30 Km drive each way and 10 bucks parking down-town. The folks at GPC Labworks on Bank Street in Ottawa have been happy to accommodate me. Last week I got 5 rolls of slides back, shipped in a box from 250 sheets of 5X7 Ilford paper. (which tells me they are a real lab BTW) Google them.

$10 postage each way! $20 before processing fees? You realize it would be way, Way, WAY cheaper to do your own, right?
100 bucks for special shipping to get a chemical kit? plus chemicals that would probably go bad before I could use the half of them. (I can buy HC-110 and Ilford Fixer at Henrys, but they don't list the E-6 stuff.)

If I could still get a one gallon Kit at A local store, it might make sense. I just found I can get the 1 Liter c-41 press developing kits in by mail, so I am thinking of getting my Old processing unit out to see if it still works. but I really can only use Colour Negative in a way that is not approved for APUG ears. the last time I made Colour prints was on good old EP-2 paper using used and repurposed C-41 Developer and Blix.

Now I could drive down-town and pay to park only a few blocks from the lab. Google maps gives me 30.2 Km and 28 minutes to the building. 60 Km round trip. and the better part of an Hour behind the wheel, not including a good hike from the pay parking places to the lab. Many of them would charge 5 bucks an hour up to the maximum of $12.00

My car is rated to get 6 l per 100Km. I would use 3.6 Liters of gas at $1.21 so just the gas would be nearly 5 bucks. for each of the two required trips. Plus parking. Canada Post now charges much more than the used to because the wiped out all the cheep services, 10 years ago you could mail a roll of film for 2 bucks.

I have not gone downtown since I retired.

Personally, I'm assuming everything from Kodak and Fuji will eventually go. .

.... and perhaps those of us who like transparencies will have to cling to black and white ones. Necessity could spark a lot of interest in the various processes, kits and, who knows, maybe the odd commercial service. Ilford.....?

Where do you get your information from?
Remember, "This forum is NOT for rumors and speculation".
If you have a source please let us know what it is.

PS I personally think the last EBX roll has already been produced but I really know nothing for sure.

Hmm. First you jump on the previous poster and say that "This forum is NOT for rumors and speculation", then you proceed to speculate that "I personally think the last EBX roll has already been produced .."

Just an observation!

I base my assertion on my personal experience, and the majority of people I know.
