Hi,

I'm looking for a set of data on EL-Nikkor coverage. I'm not sure exactly how to describe this but what I need is a reverse of image circle. On practical sense, which lens can accommodate up to what size negative.

I have the following in my collection:

40mm
50mm
75mm
80mm
105mm
135mm

I used to have a link to an Italian site where someone collected data for entire collection of El-Nikkors. I can't find it anymore. Does anyone have a link to that, or have data for above??

Nikon's specification for format size is as follows:

40mm: 24x36mm
50mm: 24x36mm
63mm: 32x45mm
75mm: 60x60mm
80mm: 60x70mm
105mm: 60x90mm
135mm: 90x120mm/4x5"
150mm: 90x120mm/4x5"
180mm: 130x180mm/5x7"
210mm: 130x180mm/5x7"
240mm: 180x240mm/8x10"
300mm: 270x330mm/10x12"
360mm: 300x400mm/11x14"

That's it!

Thank you BOTH!

That's what my El-Nikkor brochure says, and my experience backs that up. The 75mm has an 80mm image circle, which just makes it for 6x6 (which is really 56mm x 56mm); the 80 has a 95mm image circle and is listed as covering both 6x6 and 6x7. The 75 has 4 elements in 3 groups, the 80 is 6/4.

BTW, does anybody know of a source for 29.5mm rear caps for these things? The 50, 63, 80, and 105 all take this size.

Is that accurate? I thought 75mm would not cover 6x6 and that's the reason I have 80mm.

Yes, the 75 was definitely intended for 6x6. It's a 4-element lens that was offered as an economical option for 6x6 users who did not want to spend the money for the 6-element 80. It was the companion to the 50mm f/4, which served as the budget alternative to the 50/2.8.

The 75 is a decent lens for 35mm, better than most 50's in this respect, although it's prone to focus shift from wide open to one stop down. I'd classify it as a questionable lens for serious MF applications. Resolution falls off at the corners.

I think I have an ordinary Schneider push-on plastic cap on mine. Will check tomorrow when I'm home.

I use my old 150mm (the one with the 53mm flange) for 5x7 with no complaints.

I use the 80mm for 6x7 with no issues. It's quite a nice lens, too. It's a quirk of the 80mm Nikkor to work with 6x7 as I understand it, plenty of folks told me it wouldn't work even though Nikon specs it for that size.

I have a push on cap labelled 29mm Made in Germany, but it's not Schneider as I had thought. It's a tight fit.
