I found a really clean 203mm f/7.7 lens in a Supermatic #2 shutter for a quite good price.

The shutter speeds were a little dodgy but - worse - the shutter speed ring was tight. So I tore down the cover, cleaned the various ring parts as well well as some of the gear train.

The shutter speeds improved somewhat after that, but the shutter speed selector ring is very tight above 1/100th - i.e., getting to 1/200 and 1/400 is difficult.

If I loosen the top face plate screw slightly, this gets much better. So I guess my question is, has anyone ever torn one of these down and fixed a problem like this?

I have Flutot's repair my Supermatic shutters. They do a splendid job.

I do have the repair manual for the Supermatic that the 203 f/7.7 is in too. PM me if you're interested.

Shutters need service every now and then and that's just part of the game. You can try it yourself if you're really meticulous like a watchmaker, but for me it's a lot easier and more productive to have someone who knows what they're doing handle the job.

Carol @ Flutot's recently did a CLA on 3 of my Supermatic shutters, including one that another well-regarded technician had returned to me as unrepairable. Great work, very reasonable price, excellent communication. A bit of a wait, but worth it.
