Ektalure G?

Alright, so here's my situation. I've never printed on the stuff but heard very good things about it. I've been given the opportunity to purchase a huge amount of the stuff...in the thousands of sheets...in sizes 8x10, 11x14, and 16x20...at below cost. It is from, AFAIK, what was the last batch of the stuff to be shipped, circa the end of 2000. It's been well kept. So my question is, should I stockpile it?

Now I know there are a couple generic answers out there. One being, try it, and stock up if I really like it. Another being, don't waste your time with old papers, there are great ones out now...ad nauseum.

So if anyone has any strong opinions on this, or wants some of the paper, I'd appreciate any responses.

Ektalure G was a great paper.

But I would advise testing it first to see if it is fogged.

Yeah I'm gonna pick up an 8x10 pack and test it for fogging first. But AFAIK it's still good.

There are indeed some great ones out there, but there's nothing like Ektalure G out there. It's beautiful paper. If you like warm tones, I'd sure try it.

I'd love some also. I still have two boxes of 8x10 in my freezer. There is nothing else like it.

I would be interested depending on the fog level. A local commercial shooter gave the school where I run the darkroom a 10-sheet pack of 11x14 which was fogged to around 0.15du, and between some KBr added to the developer and a little cutting bleach between first and second fix, I was able to get a print I liked. Unfortunately, there are only five sheets remaining. I think some of the longevity comes from the paper not having developer incorporated. Portriga from the same shop was useless, and I just returned a box of Polymax FA which was similarly useless.

If you do lith printing, a slight fog may not be that problematic as it is normal proceedure in my darkroom to flash the whole paper before main exposure.
I have not tried this paper for lith but I would immediately try this.

Ektalure G was my favorite paper. When Kodak dropped Ektalure, I dropped Kodak.

I still have several boxes from 2000 and FB paper tends to be good for years with no probs. BTW, Forte Polywarmtone semimatt is the closest match that I know of (too bad that's gone as well). I'd buy it quicker than a ferret up a trouser leg!

I'll keep you all posted on the fogging tests from the 8x10 sheets. I haven't had time to get around to it yet. In any event, I'd love to buy up all of it, but I simply can't afford it. So anyone who wants some, just shoot me a PM with size and quantity, and I'll get back to you on prices. Like I said, it's below cost.

Sorry guys, I'm running behind on this. Just not enough hours in the day. I'll be testing the front, back, and center sheets from a pack of the 8x10. I apologize but it looks like it may be Monday before I have it done. I'll be sending out PM's shortly to the interested parties with paper sizes (there have been some changes) and prices. Once again, I apologize for the delay. Anyone interested who hasn't PM'd me please do so soon. I should make it clear that I am not fog-testing the 11x14 or 16x20. However, as I stated earlier, AFAIK they are all from the same batch, the same shipment, and have all been kept under identical environmental conditions.

Ektalure G, buy all you can and run . Fogged? who cares , Even fogged ektalure is great . I have used many boxes of vintage ektalure R,X,K and G(1960s paper).
They all had a little base fog. Still a joy to use.

I get paper from international locations, in a cardboard box just larger than the paper and with bubble wrap around the paper.
I will order 10 boxes of 16x20 and 4 boxes of 11x14. That would require two boxes.If you put it in two boxes I will have Fedx pick up at your location and I will pay for your packaging.

About 6 months too late there, I suspect. Don't know how I missed it when it was current. Ektalure is nice stuff.

Dear gang,

I've contacted all of you individually I hope. I'm sorry to report that the 16x20 and 11x14 are gone. For anyone who's interested I still have a fair bit of fog-free 8x10 left. The owner of the store, which is on the verge of going out of business, has politely requested that if I'm going to pass the paper along to others, that I raise the price back up closer to retail, at $35+tax for a 25-sheet pack. USPS shipping within the US and Canada will be cheap. Any takers feel free to respond here of PM me.

16x20 Ektalure

Hi. I found this thread doing a google search on Ektalure. I have 10 - 50 sheet boxes, still in their individual cardboard packing boxes, that I'd like to sell. They have all been carefully stored since they were purchased when the last shipment went out to all the large camera stores sometime in 2000 and are unfogged. I'd like to get $250 per box, which I know is quite a bit more than what maxbloom was probably selling his for, but what ever supplies are out there are dwindling, and most likely almost completely gone. The person I had these for backed out at the last minute and I'd like to sell them as quickly as possible. I'm offering them here, for a week and a half from today, before they go on ebay, where I'm sure the price will go up from what I've suggested here.

Interested parties should send me a private message instead of filling the thread further. Prefer USPS money orders, or bank transfers to paypal, which charges a LOT for fees.
