Ektachrome Revival Price Point

Well - as Pukalo obviously can't find the time to answer this question - I am sure he will respond later - now you got ME here ?
First to make more clear : I wouldn't suppose (from asking about) Pukalo has less experience than all of us real Apug/Photrio experts.......!!!
(and please notice the irony from this).
I have just had a feeling from that Pukalo
(cause from his statement to E6 films)
could be an expert from many many years. But it seams to me also possible he should be one fellow of the younger generation who grow up with digital cameras and was bored from megapixels meanwhile.
So as many other younger fellowes who were interisted in traditional photography suddenly.
Now it is coming to me

...?

You are right I am no expert at all.

But I do my best to train my english here.
I have had the usual english lessions in school. But this had nothing to say ( it's insufficient for a whole lifetime ).
After this I had business english for two years at economic high school - this was much better. But my real english more comes from military training in flight control service. Later I refreshes my english during the time at the university.

But this all was nothing in comparison to native speakers from here.

Seriously - I began first with photography as many others at the age of 6 years.

In my case I have done photography for 42 years and I started out with slide film a lot because while I was learning I don't want the lab to be a factor in my end results. And then I started doing my own processing and printing and even manage a 1 hr photolab so I switched to color negative film. Now that my wife made me got rid of my darkroom when we moved to our new house I want to shoot slides again as I don't want anyone to make my prints.

Your wife made you got rid ? OK I should translate it . But it is a different meaning to your wife made you got rich/prosperous I gues.
Well - thats interisting - same reasons from me. I was so disappointed from prints (made from comcerial labs) at the end of the 80th.
My photography comes to zero with c41 films.
But E6 + comercial developement was also much cheaper than to have highly expensive bad prints from c41.
So I havn't any c41 shooting over a full decade (till 2003).
And with my Kodachrome25 I was happy again (till2003).

If the new E100 is about 10 USD per 135-36 roll i'd be content.
I hope they release it in 5 packs also.

All pointless speculation. It's not on the market, yet.
Kodak will price it as they see fit and we will either buy it or not.
If it's as good as the last iterations of Ektachrome, and the price is not ridiculously high, I will not only buy it but stockpile some.

I shot Kodachrome, Kodachrome 64, ... , Ektachrome 32, Ektachrome 64,Ektachrome T, E2, E4, E6 ... . I developed E2. I preferred Ektachrome by far.

I agree Wallendo $15,- should be the very max. but Kodak might not see this point.....?

A brief update, although I'm not sure there's any new information.

A price in the range of $20 - $28 would be my estimate for an emulsion marked under the Professional banner. But it is the retailers who will have the final say on pricing, not Kodak. This is one of the problems with existing retailing with film: retailers at street level trying (as best they can) to price people out of film and into digital. No great wonder eBay sellers do such a brisk and successful trade.

The risk to Kodak is their baseline pricing appearing very uncompetitive compared to existing E6 products (Fuji chiefly, where available) and thus the take-up could potentially be abysmal, but it may be that anyway with just a 35mm offering. The 35mm format is the very least likely to tempt professionals at any price point. It just does not provide for the quality demanded that larger formats so easily provide.

In most points I agree with you - street pricing and ebay sellers may be further issues.
But just to get sure - you spoke about Aus. $ ?
Because some fellows would be wild if we
discuss Ektachrome pricing on basis of
max.28,- USD.
Possible Kodak itself would be wild from reading this.
Well - the info I have is a range of $ 17,- /21,50 in USD (street price) .
But the hope is with Kodak to think about

That was Australian Dollars, yes, on a near-equal footing with the Canadian dollar, too.
Let those fellows lose their head over the $28. Some Fuji emulsions are almost $30 a roll. Not a problem.
You do know that Kodak would be looking to recoup their R&D costs from Ektachrome, and would likely sooner drop it if targets are not reached, and certainly not proceed any further (with more formats of the emulsion). Don't expect a roll at $10. That's airy-fairy dreaming that belongs in a Monty Python skit.

Well to that point I just remember a Jan.17 statement given with a press interview : Kodak's plan is to sell 10.000.000 films/year from new Ektachrome in 135-36.
If that would happen with high pricing such as planned I see a real chance Kodak may spend us further formats.
( with a bit more higher pricing)
But 10 million Ektachromes/year ? This goes also in direction of a Monty Phyton
Movie. ......I have therefore some doubts.

PS : To be faire - the press agend perhaps
wasn't correct informed or was mixing facts? Perhaps they told him within the next years we should sell 10 Million films
and he made 10 Mill. a year from less experience about the issues.
Who can say. By the way with 10 Mill.
x 28,-$ / year Kodak shares should be rising to the sun from todays fixing

Yes - I just saw the film : nice and very informative. Thank you for the link iandvaag.
Well - Kodak is preparing these days a much much bigger image campaign (for introducing New Ektachrome).
It seams so this video - (from the link you gave : YouTube) is a kind of precursor of the comming campaign.
So their might be NO doubts on new Ektachrome is comming very soon
(I remember some fellows with speculations Kodak is bunkrupt).
There might be also NO doubts on
outstanding performance of the improved film. BUT it might have its much much higher price...

You said that a retailer can sell at any price it wants? If Kodak wants to sell the film and the retailer doesn't Kodak can sell them direct. I don't know about Kodak but camera manufacturers do not allow their authorized dealers to sell their cameras at too high a price.

Kodak has an intern price calculation from that a range to retailer pricing is following.
That means retailers can make their own price - so you are right.
But there is a limit to nices pricing - retailers are well knowing this. From that point there is NO profit possible.
This range - Kodak has found out from market reserarch last quarter - should be between the mentioned prices.
If retailer would make it cheaper the films than Kodak offeres them - retailers would spent you Ektachrome with some bucks?

What I am saying is that whatever the price is depending on Kodak and not so much the retailers. If the retailers want to mark up the price a lot and not selling Kodak can just sell them direct. In today internet commerce it's not difficult to do and it reaches as many potential buyers if not more as having them in retail stores.

At B&H, FujiChrome Provia 100f is $13.95 a roll. Velvia 50 is currently $11.50 a roll (although that seems lower than its recent pricing - its currently about $20 on Amazon). Kodak is not going to be able to charge $28 a roll in this market.

I live in the mountains of North Carolina and don't know of a brick and mortar retailer within a hundred miles that sells slide film, so I don't know what a reasonable B&M retailer price would be.
