Ektachrome or Fujichrome

I voted Fujichrome, but only because they have a larger selection and I use Velvia (50 & 100) when I go on vacation. I do like EliteChrome, however.

I don't actively shoot slide film because it's slightly expensive to buy and develop, and I don't have the subject matter to use it on.

Relative to what EIR cost in 35mm when Kodak offered it, the prices are fairly reasonable. That is to say, I believe they are in the CAD$30 neighbourhood for 120 or 135. I've yet to buy any because any EIR was spendy to begin with. The only reason I was able to buy mine was because I found a store that had had them sitting in a freezer since their expiry and knew they could no longer sell them as fresh, so they docked the price somewhat. I thought that was kind of them.

I still have perhaps a dozen rolls of E100G in the freezer.

Pity. Ektachrome was discontinued right at the peak of its evolution. I think I still have one or two frozen boxes of 8x10 E100G. That's it.
Another favorite, Fuji Astia 100F, can still be purchased in Japan, but not here. I'm down to one box of 8x10 of that. But with the demise of
Cibachrome, what's the point? I've largely switched over to color neg films. But now that they happen to be at the peak of their quality, is that an ill omen?

Umm, how about projection? That's my preferred way of viewing chrome films.

OK well projection's a bit more difficult for medium format than for 35mm, and more difficult still for 4x5 or 8x10, I'll give you that. But if you're not projecting, there's always the light table and a loupe.

For projection I always liked good ole Kodachrome 25. Long gone, of course. The problem with the chrome mentality is that a film which looks great on a lightbox or via projection, like Velvia, might be a relatively poor choice to print from.

I miss Ektachrome 100VS and Ektachrome 64 (EPR, IIRC). Currently, I am using Provia 100F, but it's not even close to Ektachrome 100 Plus (EPP)... Maybe Ferrania will fill this void.

I still shoot chrome for projection. That's why I only shoot it in 35mm though. I have some 120 I got in a box of old film - last time I used it, it was fine though long outdated, supposedly frozen since new by the guy on eBay I got it from and I know I have kept it frozen since I got it. But I kind of scratch my head what to even do with 120 chrome film. Maybe if I ever get a good... [shhh] scanner and color printer I'll use it for hybrid work.

There must have been two different films:
1) Ektachrome 64 (ER)
2) Ektachrome 64 Professional (EPR)

Lately I'm scanning some slides for an uncle of mine. They have the 5031 edge markings, so they seem to be Ektachrome 64 (ER). These were shot between 30+, to 25+ years ago and look fabulous. Only a couple of them are faded, but these have other damage as well. He even unearthed his slide projector after decades and we had a slideshow! :w00t: The scans actually look very nice, but when projected, they look a lot better. This left a bitter - sweet taste. It was nice to see a slideshow after many, many years, but somewhat saddening that E6 films are going away.

I shooting Fujichrome including Velvia 50/100F, but last three rolls Ektachrome 100G in my refrigerator. And l want try Rollei CR200.

Unfortunately, when I was working with these films, all I could get was EPP (100), EPR (64) and EPL (400). Feels sad to know I could have tried a lot more films than I did.

I miss the subdued color of E200 Professional for some things. I shot my last roll a couple of years ago and the slides, mixed with Fuji and E100G slides in the same show, just jumped out. It was subdued and almost pastel in comparison but quite accurate. Not the best all around film maybe but very nice for some things. The 200 speed is a nice middle ground too.

Where? If you're thinking of the Japan Exposures summary pages, don't be mislead. Clicking on any of their Astia icons will result in detailed pages that say "Sold Out."

There seem to be several shops in Japan that will sell direct, not just the service of Japan Exposures. How long Astia keeps unless truly frozen
I don't know. I do know that the closely related Fuji Dupe sheet film (basically just old-style Astia, tungsten-balanced), along with Kodak EDupe, was typically spoiled with highlight crossover even when shipped "fresh" in this country, indicating that it wasn't made very often.
I also ran into some spoiled "fresh" Astia 120 film. It didn't sell well, probably because most chrome users are more concerned with visual
saturation and pop on a light box than actual printability. But my chrome days are largely over. I'm more concerned about the supply chain
of ACROS. Have some of that left in 8x10 myself.

Also, the things I'd do for E100VS and E100GX to come back- I have one roll of the E100VS that's being stored for a nice day (hopefully soon, my GX is already color shifting)
