Ektachrome 120 will come back next year !

If you are just looking on B&H sides - you'll soon find New Ektachrome in 120 :

But beware of friends - because the next what you'll soon find is that mark:

"No longer avaible" .

Here is the news : To the stand of information from yeasterday Kodak is planning to bring back Ektachrome 120 next year.
So B&H there is enough time till next summer to come up to date with that markings : No longer - should be shifted into : soon !

Well - and what then "soon" may signifantaly will mean depends on the scedule of arrival.
So next year may be "end of 2019" but it could also mean "begining 2020".

But that are good news indeed aren't that. Would you buy and shot 120 Ektachrome or would you first " hamster " and freeze it ?

I can't say at this time (it is inofficial first) but perhaps it'll be just a small run on 120Ektachrome because the demand shouldn't be in highest scales.
So B+H is perhaps annoyed next year to get more and more "preorders".......in advance of effects of limitation? We will see ...

My future in shooting chromes (and to some extent negative film) in 35mm format will come down to being able to quickly scan film with acceptable quality.

Maybe something like the below will work well. Bulk scanning of 10 strips, 6 frames/strip. We have to wait and see if the scans are worthwhile when it comes out.

That's no bad idea at all. I got just some scans of 35mm wich I had an urgent need. The quality is on cheapest level (just for net use in low resolution) but on 6x7 and higher the smallest quality is great and it goes up to multiscan with 400mb/picture with resolution 5078x6298 that is quite a lot.

I'm quite sure this product listing you found on the B&H website is the old, discontinued E100G. You can find all kinds of discontinued products "listed" on B&H's website. They don't come up when navigating their site, but you can arrive at them via external links and google search. For example, here's one for a roll of Kodachrome 64:

I'm certain that this film is not planned to re-enter production, and the fact that the old product page exists doesn't suggest that it will.

The issue with B&H sides is quite clear - but I found it could be a nice introduction. The B&H picture
of "New E100G" have to be real old (2003 ?) to that time the campaign of "New (Improved) Ektachrome started. ( on later Ektachromes 2006, 2009 you can't find the " New ").
Yes B&H did not indicate Ektachrome will come back from this package shot wich is still on their side of course.
But Kodak will bring Ektachrome120 back - I explained it on the other thread " Ektachrome is back"
And I've to repeat it : That are good news indeed aren't that ?

If you want to see first Kodak official statement - you have to wait till day x within next year (I guess you have to wait so long) but now you are best informed in advance still today......

In theory, it should attract more people given the format is more appealing. But Kodak faces an uphill struggle gaining acceptance of Ektachrome 100 in 35mm when it is priced much higher than competitive products.

Quite right - I came to the same conclusions. Nevertheless I will not hope Fuji will proceed with discontinuation orgies like we saw during the last years.
But I expect it (if it will be done within long term or short term is the remaining question).
The same is with Kodak - who knows? But there is a main difference to Fuji.
You might hear of discontinuation from Fuji E6 within next weeks (or you might hear from massive price increasement what to most photographers will be nearly the same) but Kodak isn't able to proceed in that way during a short therm.
Otherwise they will louse reputation in total. And (I guess) Kodak may imagine this.
And today it makes no sense at all. So an upcomming next format is real nice also to photographers who just need 35mm film and will never use a higher format.
Because it will show that there is also hope for a longer term in general.
Theoreticaly the same hope is with Fuji E6 because sales should be increased from the bottom down.
Theoreticaly ? But (not to forget) the Film departement of Fuji (special with E6) is a smaler niche on Fujis total earnings in comparison to Kodak.
You also may think : It is the same ! But there is a complete difference.
To Kodak it has potential (the Film earnings) nethertheless in total these earnings are not with great sums. The potential Fuji is looking for is based today on cosmethics......

Ok - but with retailers nice priced Ektachromes (possible we will have such pricing just on the beginning -not in the longer term) Kodak has increased pricing (we should not forget) but that is just in concern of the absolut smal pricing from the past.
The main difference in pricing has been (for E6) between amatheuric Ektachromes (wich has been extremly cheap with nearly comparable great characteristics) and the professional (selected emulsion) Ektachromes.
The same, we perhaps remember, with FujiE6. The Sensia , special with ISO100 was a real good emulsion comparable with Provia100 but it was priced at 3bucks.
Fuji discontinued Sensias complete at first (ISO 100/200/400).
The reason for that was to higher the price base on a level of professional films from economic reasons (less demand = higher production costs).
So we saw (from discontinuation of cheap films) a massive increasement.
To those photographers who shot exclusive professional films the increasement was not so much to feel.
But a mass of amatheuric photograpers closed their demand on E6 in total. (No Sensia any more? = no need to buy Provia100 because too expensive).
So your theory is quite right - if Kodak is more expensive in comparison to Fuji they will have a hart job to sell Ektachrome.
But Fuji higher the prices more and more - some say here is the reason of the extraordinarily delay of Ektachrome revival. (First let us wait till Fuji is more high priced - possible Kodak speculate in that direction but I don't think so)

I think "We would entry a speculative area" is a better title to this thread than "Ektachrome 120 will come back next year!"

That might be - I myself remember simular objection during the time at the university. But there (that has to be a main difference) to put the correct footnotes was a real philosophy. To me it was a restriction to form own thoughts. (Every simple single sentence had to be marked with a source and the form of markings had to be done in just one correct way.
Later I agreed : The issue was in concern of stolen intellectual property.
But today and here we are not any longer at university aren't we. Kodak will follow with official anouncement for sure.But they definitivly will avoid to make a failure twice: To announce much to long before the full production is beginning.

PS : Sorry - but I can't find the problem here? Sure you want a source...but when PetaPixel will state the same you definitivly would ask again for the official anouncement ? Am I right or am I right..

If someone next of your house doubt fire would you then first have to wait for the official anouncement
of the police? Or would you have first a look at your kitchen?

Nobody will ask you for a source if you avoid stating your opinions and speculation as fact.

I hope Ektachrome comes out in 120 because I'd like to try it. But just like you I have no idea when or if that will happen.

In case of stating speculation or opinions you would indeed be right. On the same hand I wouldn't do so - I perhaps then would use other formulation like : " would it be nice to have E100 in 120 back" a.s.o.
But (sorry to tell again) it is a fact. Because of the source wich is more than reliable. But I can't tell you and indeed I don't want to tell more. You may wonder about but I am sure on the day Kodak anouncement will come others will feel the same and wonder......

I can't say the date Ektachrome120 came back - on that part you are still right (Kodak itself can't say today the date of arrival there is no E.T.A. out now).
But it will come and it will come the next year that is quite clear. And of course Kodak will announce it short before (remember Kodak Tmax3200).....

We would destroy the surprise of an official Kodak statement wich is an anouncement of Ektachrome 120 and Ektachrome 4x5 inch estimated on the 3.quarter 2019 if we would state this here.

I've seen portra 400 vc pop up on b&h ads on this site recently. I clicked on it once, and it said the product was discontinued, but offered me current portra 400.

Let's see how the 35mm roll does and wait for an official statement (though I'd buy a 120 roll as well if it did come back).
Though why was this posted on the unofficial ektachrome 35mm release day?
